The snow melted here on Tuesday, but today we got hit with 4 inches of snow. I at least got to test out my new windshield cover, and I love it. Cuts down on the time it takes me to clean off my car.

We were expected to get this blinding snow storm and schools all closed. Yesterday afternoon when it was clear they canceled school on the thought that we were getting a storm.
I never heard of that. Jason always says 'I know dad up hill both ways' when I tell stories like this, but not in this case. I remember being about his age and this was predicted but they always waited til the wee hours of the morning before deciding to close schools.
If the prediction was in and it got to be about midnight or after and the storm began to hit then they might close the schools but not the day before on a prophesy of a storm.

We had a blizzard that finally ended today and I had to call in since the neighborhood wasn't plowed. It's funny how in December nothing really happened, now we get it all.

Weather is unpredictable. I know the Weather department feels they have it figured out but they're not always right. In fact they're wrong pretty often.

As often these things have a way of not living up to hype. We did get snow and some freezing but it didn't measure up to what they predicted we would get. It wasn't enough to close schools but they did that anyway. SO the kids got a day off and it was not too rough to be outside.
We have sunshine today. Something I learned from my father years ago if you shovel and plow as close to the ground as you can. And if you brush the cars as much as possible when the sun does come out even if its still rather cold the sun finishes the job.

I think too in recent years weather has become a bigger part of the news than it used to be. I went through following broadcasts and internet weather to follow the chances of rain for all of my baseball years. Even tornado and hurricane possibilities. On numerous occasions it was nothing more than hype like everybody is saying.
Games were never called a rain out when it was just expectation. If the field was dry by game time we played. In fact sometimes the field wasn't dry at all. If it wasn't lightning and the rain was manageable we played the games. Sometimes I can remember not starting till 11pm becuase of a delay or having a 2 hour delay but the game resumed that happened more than once or twice too.

We're getting a little reprieve right now. Sunshine and mild cold not too bad. We have at least 2 months of possible rough weather ahead though.

When I lived in the North sometimes during a settling period the city would send out dumprtucks, bulldozers and payoladers to remove the snow banks and scrape along the curbs so for the time being the snow banks wouldn't be in the way and also so there would be a place to put snow for subsequent road plowings.
My family's business and others in the same field would be hired by the city or the county to bring out diggers, payloaders, and dumptrucks. Sometimes the snow is left in fields but the ideal thing is to dump it in large bodies of water. If the county authorized it they could dump the snow into Lake Ontario but there was a limit to getting cleared. If they put all of the snow in the county in the lake at once as big as the lake is there's a potential flooding issue but the snow that is plowed from the street isn't the cleanest and putting in more than what they feel the lake can dissolve quick is a pollution hazard too.

Last Tuesday night we had an ice storm that was so bad, my parents and I had no power for about 3 hours, and all the schools, and a lot of businesses were closed Wednesday. I'm just glad I did not have to work that day, because the roads were awful.

I read about that ice storm. There were pictures of it on my homepage and newspaper. It looked real scary.

I plowed again this morning when I got home. We've had snow everyday at least a little bit for the longest time now.

The weather here has briefly turned warm for yesterday, today, and probably tomorrow. A lot of people are celebrating the reprieve from the cold, but I'm not letting it fool me. Every winter we seem to get a small period of days where it warms up and feels like spring, and then we get smacked with bone chilling cold or a moderate snow storm.
Mom calls it the flu days. Everyone seems to fall sick after these small series of warm winter days.

I'd say its about the same here as it is for Jersey. Its thawed. The pavement is fully clear and in patches you can see the grass.
I removed the plow from my truck just because its better for the front end not to carry that extra weight if its not going to be needed. It snaps right back on easily I need it.
Removing the plow does not make me think I am done with it for the season I know better than to think that.

It hit 60 + again today but they're saying possible snow overnight. I'll be out in it if it happens.
