As of Friday I officially retired from Penn York division after 32 years. I can still be called on emergency crews but I am retired. In a few weeks I might go work as needed for a local business. I am currently 51, I have a grandson now my sons are both out of high school and my daughter is in her sophomore year.

Retirement is fun I've worked on a lot of things that needed attention around my house and plan on some other things This is good Not staying up all night too. Thats going to take a while to get out of that habit.

Not too much to say here. We had a nice Christmas. I hope everyone else did too Its fun being retired. I took some parttime work for a family business driving tow trucks Ironically I worked for this family part time when I was high school age and I guess like salmon we return to our roots. I've remained on good terms with the owner's sons who have taken over the business and have put me on as a driver and handyman but its a few hours a day not a full time thing.
Meanwhile I have a chance to catch up on some work at my house that is hard to find time and energy to do when you're working fulltime. Being a grandfather is fun and things are going along

I retire from Penn York / CSX and we have multiple train derailments. I've dealt with my shre of those. It usually doesn't make the news because its not usually a firey crash its usually a fairly routine process to retail the wheels but these were bad crashes.

I was thinking of you guys yesterday and today. My Subaru Forester has a bad rear wheel bearing, I have found out in working on this project that those are notorious for rusting in place, and a common method is to just beat on it with a sledgehammer until it comes free. So I alternated putting a blowtorch on it and beating it with a four pound sledge. 45 min later, it came loose, I sent pictures to a few friends with the caption "Die Hillary Clinton." Yeah, I totally stole that phrase from the Kimm story of "Trapped in the vapor." Hopefully the rest of the process goes smoother!

I'm not sure I remember the Kimm story exactly but I can figure out probably how it went and liken it to beating a wheelbearing and use a Hillary Clinton analogy lol. I like it. |

Nothing much I retired last October and I recently began some parttime work I'm 52 and not ready to just sit home and watch reruns yet. My son Jason is 26, and has 1 son and they're expecting another baby, They're not married. I'm not happy about that I think they should get married but its their life. My son Eric will turn 20 next month. He has a full time job and a nice girlfriend My daughter Emily will begin Junior year this September.

I’m enjoying retirement. I took some hours for a local business I’m enjoying that, And not having the bureaucratic nonsense is pleasant. I am still on a list for emergency but most likely won’t be called and I’m not required to go in if the CSX did call me for emergency but I’d probably do it for a week or so

I am among the original members of this forum. I know none of us post daily or regularly anymore. I look in here and there and I'm the only one really. Others may lurk in once a year or something. I post just enough to keep the heart beating. I have been a Lewasite member for over 20 years and old habits are hard to break. We've just about completed another generation over the time I've been a forum member. My sons are both over 20, my daughter will turn 17 next month and is a junior in high school I retired from a career of over 30 years and am now a grandfather. Yep I'd call it a generation.
