Hey, Full-Serv buddie! I put 10 years of pumping fuel and turning wrenches. Anyway, I've always had the keys to anywhere I worked. Unfortunately, I became the guy that always showed up a few minutes late - mostly because I started to hate the place with such a passion that I almost broke a window...

But were you the only person with keys and were other workers left waiting for you to open and then forced to look stupid because you were late. If yes get a hammer and pound your left thumbnail. If no but you were just late not because something happened but because you didn't start early enough but the place still opened on time and you were just late then you're forgiven.

John, that is just awful that you had to go through that at your old job. I don't blame you for quitting. As a lot of the members here know, I quit my last job (at a sandwich shop) because of bad management, slacker co-workers, but mostly because of the rudeness of some of the customers, which took such a toll on me that I was coming home from every shift extremely grouchy.
The day before I quit my old job, I was the opener for that day, and the crew from the night before had not done any work, meaning there were no back-up containers for any of the meats and veggies in the back cooler, the food containers that we had out front for the display case were nearly empty, almost every sauce bottle was empty, and there was hardly any bread for the sandwiches. It was also 4th of July weekend, there were tournament softball games, and it was a Sunday, which meant we would be extremely busy, and the only person scheduled to work with me that day was a girl who had just been hired three weeks beforehand.
Needless to say, we were busy beyond belief, we could hardly keep up with making back-ups of the different foods, because once we made it, everybody would order it and we would have to make more of it, and we had a line out the door for nearly 5 hours, so of course since the line was so long, people were being rude to us, and since there were only 2 of us working, it was difficult to get anything done, and it put a lot of stress on both of us.
At one point, I got pissed off at this one customer who was being an @$$hole because he had to wait for 30 minutes in line. Because I was tired of putting up with all the rude customers complaining about the long line and prices of the food, I said to the guy something along the lines of, "I'm sorry, but there are only 2 people working and we can only go so fast, so try to be patient! If you're going to be an ass and take it out on us, then just leave! I'm not in the mood to put up with it!"
I probably shouldn't have said that, but I was done putting up with that place and the customers. I quit the next day without bothering to put in a two-weeks notice. Anyway, sorry about the long-winded post.

fartinggurl that's horrible that customers would say that to you. when there's long lines and not enough help that does not give them the right to curse at you. they chose to wait in the line when they could of went somewhere else. I think it's great what you said at the end. their behavior toward you was wrong. I know what you mean about slackers. I have to put up with one for 2 years now and she does not care about anyone except herself. today the fitting room had so much returns and she can't be bothered to help me. last night a manager got mad at her because she hid a basket of returns in the kids department and my manager found it. she has crossed the line so many times yet they don't fire her. I don't get paid enough to babysit. you know what I think stupidity is blind. you know someone can't be bothered to work and instead of 15 minute breaks they take 30 minute ones yet they remain there when there are more quailified people looking for a job and get turned away. my ex is going to apply tomorrow so I am hoping they hire him somewhere. maybe get rid of diamond that would be my dream.

For pulling that kind of garbage she should go! Does she have kids by different people too and would rather party all night? Wouldn't surprise me. Where I work they're cracking the wip on us about things because others ruined the privelege for us. We can't have cell phones because of those who'd text and not pay attention. We can't have MP3 players for the same reason, even if it's only one ear. We can't even have rolls of toilet paper to blow our noses because one genius threw it in a press goofing off. I really wish they'd stop hiring teenage boys.

its everywhere and im sick of it i know im only 13 and I dont know everything and maybe not even as much as I appear to think I do but I know I am not wrong about saying that when you promise to do somethng you have to be there
i agreed to go somewhere wiht some frineds at a birthday party. I got invited to a game kind of last minute but I had to decline I had agreed to go to the birthday party and I could not let everybody down
i dont know why its so hard for so many people to understand that you make a comintemnt kids say that their project is do monday as in tomorrow so my other friend and I wont have their company today when we planned on minature golfing at an indoor range
if I left my frineds hanging like that my mom and my dad would have said that project was assigned over a month ago why did you wait til today to work on it and let everybody down you should have worked on it a month ago and now it would be done or just need a few minutes to finish
i see why they say that because these guys messed it up theres no point in just 2 of us going.

^^ Ah HA!!!!!! How many years has your father told you 'get it done right away.' 'Finish your responsibilities 1st and don't have them hanging over you.' 'Putting off things can hurt you later.'
And now someone else's lax attitude messed you up yesterday. Maybe your old man wasn't so wrong after all.
Just saying.

demona diamond the slacker is a minor at 17 years old but her mom had 5 kids total and from what diamond told me the father cheated. diamond was arrested once and bragged all over kmart. your right she should of been fired a long time ago but the managers there don't care to do anything. sunday night we were told to straighten really good and get the returns put away because the big important people were coming in monday. layaway was going off and the manager had to keep repeating diamond you going to get that because she is lazy. he asked her to straighten infiants hardlines which is pulling everything forward like the bottles. well she didn't do that and the manager had to ask my co-worker to do it. he then caught her talking at the service desk which she does every night. he asked her what are you doing up there when you should be straightening. she said I am asking for the hundred. he said and it takes you 5 minutes to ask that. a lot of people have complained about her and it's like running after a 5 year old making sure she is working. kmart we had a meeting about cell phones on the floor that if your caught with them you will be teminated. well during a meeting a phone fell out of kara's pocket and the manager only said that's why we don't have them on the floor and she didn't get in trouble.
and jason you are smarter then most adults. I have had friend's cancel on me without even a phone call. I was once set to buy my 1st puppy but the pet shop said it was only a few weeks old and had to get shots. my friend called and asked me to babysit along with our other friend. it turned out my other friend could not sleep over and babysit so jill the one that needed us to sleepover and babysit did not need me and when I tried to call she never called me back or answered. so I never came back to the pet shop but I had my sleeping bags ready to go and stood up. I was pretty upset she did that. but that's how I got my dog princess. I went back maybe a week later and I saw her looking at me with those cute brown eyes and I bought her around closing time. I am glad you don't do things like that because friend's are very important.

Friends are important and decency is vital. Phone call. Send a text if that's the only way but tell the person you cant make it. And do it in a reasonable time not the moment of.
The Kmart manager reprimanding Diamond that time might finally mark the beginning of the end for her. Sometimes management seems not to care when staff complains but now that its brought to their attention I'm sure they're going to watch much more carefully now. That story is an indication of that.

Ha! I can beat ya all. at Wal Fart a guy in photo lost the keys to the locked camera case and some ghetto customer found them and came back later to try to steal cameras. She failed and he got written up, not fired. The kids I work with download porn and pictures of there privates and show them to me. I am no prude but Really? Porn?. Text, text, text, that is all they do. No one gets fired. On a good note? I got my 3 year evaluation and I received an "Exceeds Performance" which is the highest and a raise. ;D

omg beangirl I can't believe they didn't get fired for losing the keys. and it's horrible they downloaded porn on the job. I once did something bad. I went home with the jewelery keys. they don't believe in having help sometimes and I was busy covering kidwear ladieswear menswear jewelery and footwear as well as the fitting room doing the returns. I was so afraid of getting yelled at but I went back and handed the keys in when the store opened. never in 10 years have I lost the keys. I am so glad you got a raise. it's nice to see that hard working people get praised and you deserve that raise.

I am jawdropped by Beangirl's post.
Keys lost and no responsibility other than written up. Porn stupid that's not for the job.
Thunderbird runs our family business I know everybody here knows that but he had to start a rule that unless you're appointed one of the people he will need to contact for each job you can't carry a phone.
There's some issues with being a sole proprietor and not a union but its a blessing too in many ways because he doesn't have to take excesive stupidity and there's no union or arbitrator at all.

We are not suppose to have phones on the floor. That is what our Co Manager Dana said. "If you need to know the time? Get a watch" That's what I do. Last night I dreamed I got a job at Target making $240,000 a year. ;D

I've done double shifts. Dayshift has an extended weekend and Monday virus. That means 1 of us stays. Sometimes right til 4pm but sometimes just to get the day situated depending on how things are.
If someone on our shift misses they figure 3rd shift is less busy and can manage with 1 less person. They dont hold a 2nd shifter back to stay with us except in emergency situations.
The cell phone thing and texting. We have a newer kid that the 1st couple days stood around and texted.
Brian the foreman said to him 'theres nobody to text at the hour we work. If you're have a text conversation with friends its past their bedtime so if they're still up they're not doing anything useful. If they're at their work and texting they're not on the job. GET IT?'

I got double shifted today. I didn't have to stay til 4 though I got home at 130. I'm going to catch a little sleep and try to be a husband and father for the weekend.
I wouldn't mind being doubled if there was an emergency and more people were needed, I wouldn't mind being doubled if some 1st shift workers were legitimately sick. BUT! They're hung over because last night was St. Patrick's Day and they got drunk.
EFF YOU! That and your birthday are not reasons to miss work.
We had a couple guys miss our 3rd shift for that too. It was just 3 of us for our group but it was a kind of simple shift anyway. Its the principle though. They usually don't make 2nd shifters stay when 1 of us calls off we just do without those people for the shift. Its different on 1st shift because its busier.
But that's stupidity that I hate.

That is terrible. Why don't they give you help if someone on your shift is missing?

wow phil that's messed up you have to stay because people are drunk. they know they have work st. patty's day so there is no need to be out drinking. I worked till 10 and if I had stayed home they probaly would kill me. I had to cover jewerly and softlines by myself 1-5. some rude lady in jewelery made me price check things for a straight hour. but to me what they did calling off drunk is unfair. people who work hard have to stay for them when they could be home with their family. I used to get a paid day off for my birthday but that changed last year. I dont care if I work on my birthday because it's just another day. but I only call off if there is a reason. I need money to go out and I won't make it playing hookey by staying home.

first shift is under more preshure to get things done becanse theres people working in offices and such. on 3rd theyre not foxing things with people waiting so theyre not in as much of a hurry thats why they favor 1st shift
the only time they make a 2nd sifter stay is if theres a specific problem theyre dealing with they figure a 5 man crew can operate with 4 when theyre not having to work around other people
