I was just going through some old papers in my lock box and found the emblem from my first car.
It was a wierd set of circumstances:
I bought my first car at 17 (a year late, yes, but 'I' bought it, my parents did not) for $175 from a guy who was moving and the extra car would have been a burden, so he let me have it, cheap.
I drove that car for two years while my friends were cycling out 3 or 4 cars that they wrecked over the years - and mommy and daddy would buy them another one......a-holes..
When I turned 19, graduated, got my Master in Automotive and made some real money I bought a new-ish pickup truck and sold my car to a neighbor kid that'd just turned 16 (I made 'him' pay for it, not his parents) for $400 (I made ALOT of money off that car over the years, but that's different stories)
[Sidebar: If you can't tell. I have a 'thing' against parents buying their kids cars. They just don't appreciate them and toss them to the side (or into mailboxes or ditches) like it's a notebook or pencil]
He drove it like a sports car and ruined it in less than three months (turns out that mommy and daddy sneaked him the cash).
A few weeks later I was perusing the junk yard and came across my old car and stole the emblem off the hood.
How did I know it was MY old car?
Simple. I had taken the front and rear bumpers off and drilled in sheet metal screws - downward - to ward off pranksters from turning my car sideways in the parking spots.
Besides, How many YUGOs are in Michigan junkyards? ;D
This isn't MY Yugo, but here's what one looks like.
1100ccs of unlimited power flowing through a 5-speed manual.
The rear end was light enough for one foot ball player to pick it up (necessitating in the screwed bumpers).
And yes, the spare tire was stored under the hood, right next to the engine!
This engine is only 100ccs bigger than my current motorcycle.
Check out those massive backup lights. I could drive down the highway at night in reverse if I had too!
$6 in gas got me through 2 weeks of driving - back when gas was only 88 cents per gallon.
Ah, good times.
Wonder if I can find another one.
What were your first cars?
And, please don't tell me that mommy and daddy bought them for you.
Lie, if you have too.
