today really got me thinking that these slackers must have a advantage over me. they suck up to managers get out of doing work and stick around being useless for years. today we got a new girl from checkouts on the floor. she went on a 15 minute break and came back almost 25 minutes later. I was so pissed off. when I was going to the break room I herd her say I am a rebel. I would of stayed longer who's going to know but I had to come back so she can go on break. you can't tell management about what these idiots are doing because like diamond she sucked up to management and got away with everything until 2 years later when they got tired of babysitting her. sharon told her to help me with returns. the girl krystal told me not to touch her basket of stuff back there because she was organizing things. 1 hour and 30 minutes the same stuff is sitting in the fitting room. she had the nerve to tell me how stressed she was putting returns away and picking up clothes. not to be rude but I really want to smack the stupid out of people sometimes. I did 2 big shopping carts and she left at 9pm so I was by myself till midnight. she walked around the store with 2 items in each hand trying to find where they go. why are these worthless idiots always working and the people who will do anything for a job can't find one half the time. I hope they put her back on checkouts.

It makes no sense. Slackers also lower the production of others who might otherwise do better work. But they figure 'if nobody else hustles why should I?' And thats understandable even though I do not feel that way. I have learned by trying to get more done and being more qualified, in a short time I was given more responsibilityand more pay than others wjo had been thete longer but try to coast much of the time. I would think today it should be a buyers market. There seems to bemore workers looking for jobs than openings. So why put up with undedicated workers. I also don't understand the lack of respect from the new girl in Angel's story. We would think if anything you'd try to make a good impression early

Being a rebel will lead to frequent unemployment too. I see an attitude of granduer in younger people today and thats going to make their downfall.

I dont like the attitude of youth that way either.
Its like its owed to them. I hear kids saying things like that they want a job to get money for concert tickets but they quit their job or start missing work because they have the money they need for the matter at hand.

i remember a teenager that quit her job because she still got allowence from her parents at age 18. I thought that was weird. but your right they care more about the money then doing work. today the manager yelled at her. she said if you want to work on the floor you have to actually do something. the girl was walking around the store with some guy and walking away talking to friends. we don't run a playground this isn't recess.
Phil I see unemployment in her future if she doesn't shape up. it just makes me mad because in order to get returns done so day shift doesn't get mad I need help doing them. I don't have the energy to deal with this anymore. especially with all these midnight shifts I can't sleep and feel run down. it would be nice if everyone helped out.

I also think undereducated workers cause less dedication in those who could go either way. If someone gets away with doing less the rest are not motivated to do more.
Speaking of work I'm heading to Baltimore for a day or 2. I will have a smart phone so I'll be able to post some but I might be a bit scarce for a few days.

How about light fingered workers? I bet most people have been aware of light fingered workers and have felt they were wrong to report it. Report it!
My family business and obviously site members know I don't work there now but I did growing up and my brothers run the business my father started, has had materials stolen over the years. It tales a long time to conclusively prove it too.
First you have to suspect then you have to catch then you have to confirm. But employees have done side jobs and even had side ventures where they had accumulated a few items and then used it for their own gain.
But eventually they got caught and fired. Try working one job for seven, eight maybe ten years and you get canned for stealing. You've had one job all that time who would be your reference now? You definitely don't want them to call that boss.

We have had quite a few "light finger" associates lately. Associates who steal and eat food on the job.We had a long time(4year) customer service manager get fired for stealing. She was loading gift cards for herself without adding the money. There was an audit and loss prevention watched her on camera and she was fired. She took these gift cards and bought high end merchandise with them. We were all in shock as she was like "family" to us. her husband still works here. He had no knowledge.

This week I was sent to Baltimore for this week to work with a crew we are almost finished but its 7am to 7pm and we should be done Thursday. That's a departure from overnight work. But I then have Friday through Tuesday off.
But its been push hard the whole time and none of the divisions would sent workers who they don't feel are on this here. Back to it I might post from my room tonight.

Got home last night.
I just spent a week on the road and they hand picked the people they send.
I have known others to sneak time too. They punch in and still do their own things until the last moment, and who stretch as much of it as they can. Then they wonder why they don't get more positive review.

I have to admit that I have been a slacker for the longest time. The only jobs I've had I've had for the money, and because of that I haven't really felt like making a -real- effort. My performance has been mediocre (or even less), and I think a big part of the reason why is that I've had access to cheap entertainment through new technology. You know - video games, YouTube videos et cetera~
I think probably the key element to making the younger generation more productive is finding a way of sparking a genuine interest in them. I read an article about the Polgar family from Hungary, which illustrates this quite well. The father of the family decided that he was going to help his children become extremely good at one thing each. His daughter Judith he taught chess. Another daughter he sent to a gymnastics course - and he constantly helped motivate them through positive impulses! He rewarded them with their own confidence and sensation of mastery! I'm sure you know - when you get good at something, it gets a lot more interesting for you - so you continue practicing getting better - and it's just a brilliant cycle of motivation and progress!
I saw Judith Polgar play at the London Classic tournament two weeks ago, and she performed brilliantly! She is without a doubt the strongest female chess player alive. She's probably even the strongest female chess player who ever lived! Her sister is a world elite gymnast as well!
That was achieved with some brilliant pedagogic thinking, and a true positive experience without being forced to do anything. Of course, it's a lot easier to do that when the child is very young, and it's very hard to keep it up as the child grows up - especially if your life is full of other things at the same time.
This idea of creating a cycle of motivation and progress is great though, and can be utilized to motivate oneself. I think it's important to teach this skill (yes, I define the motivation->progress cycle as a skill. It has to be learned) to the younger generation, to help them help themselves.
I'm still learning this, but it has already helped me a lot with my school work. I've gotten 100% in physics so far, and I think it's just because I understand that the more I learn, the more interesting it gets - and as a result, the happier I get when I work with it.

Blix do you make money doing youtube videos? if so I think that's really good. I made a lot of videos on there and I see people getting good money because they get lots of views and suscribers on youtube. some do fashion hauls to and show you where they do their shopping. that would be something I would love to get into but I have been afraid youtube would claim copyright and delete my channel.
As for the stealing by employee's I think it's sad they have to resort to that. I knew a girl who just started and would not help with returns. she was off flirting with the security guy. once I told management I caught her sitting on the chair doing nothing for quite some time. they ended up putting her on checkouts and she swiped gift cards through the register for herself. she must of done this for some time because one time Adam saw what she was doing and reported it. she wasn't just fired she was taken out in handcuffs. it is really hard to get a job after stealing to. I could never steal I would be to afraid and I would feel so low if I had to steal from a company. I could of done so at times like when I opened up my register and found $100.00 bill at the bottom of my drawer. it wasn't mine and I turned it in. I was called to human resources and they explained what happened. a employe when she closed left that inside and if anyone would of taken it she would of been short on cash and fired. they told me when I closed to look at the bottom of my drawer and make sure I got everything out. I got a $20.00 Kmart gift card for turning it in which I was not expecting.

I think bosses usually know that employees help them selves a bit but most don't know to what extent.
My father let a guy go a few years back he was ordering 10 cupboard doors when he needed 8, and similar things and he would keep what he didn't use and slowly he had his own stock of things. Then he would do side jobs and he already had a lot of materiels that were charged to our business.
My dad thought about suing him but proving it might have been more work and more costly than what could be recovered.
In the long run though it was bad for that guy. He was there for many years and was let go on bad terms so references would be difficult.
I always thought about that. References. I never had to ask previous employers for a reference but I tend to wonder if something didn't go wrong why isn't that guy still there? I had people check my stats and see if they would sign me to a contract but references aren't part of minor league baseball hahaha.

No, I don't make money from them. At least not yet. For some reason, YouTube doesn't allow people who live in Norway to join their partnership program, so I can't actually make money directly through YouTube. :/ I'm trying to get a deal with a separate company though, so we'll see what happens with that in the future.

good luck with that Blix and I hope you get that deal. classivblast hopefully the guy learned a lesson after that not to do it again. when you work for a job for so many years it's really important you leave things on good terms. I don't think stealing is ever worth it. even if your good at it at some point you will get caught. a few years ago before thanksgiving two employee's got caught stealing cds. they were young and I think they ended up spending the holiday in jail over cd's which is sad. the security camera's caught it.

It usually is something stupid that someone gets caught for and that ends up being the end of their job.

angel607, I believe taht guy tried to seek unemployment but it was blocked because he was a thief. I think he probably became less obvious in his next venture but I doubt he stopped helping himself. Most employees who embezzle figure their boss can afford it.

Good post, and therefore he cut off his nose. He got fired and so his chance of a reference is gone and he worked for you family for a long time. So the only possible reference he has for about a decade is going to be a bad 1.
