Got the surgical consult set for Aug. 3rd. I should be able to get the surgery date set then. I still need a PET scan and an angiogram, but those can be done before the surgery date. Actually, I can have a PET scan at home. I'll just have my wife grab one of the pets and give me a "scan".

My dog has never let me down whenever he has examined me for injuries. I think that's a good idea.

I could have a CAT scan at home too.

I could have a CAT scan at home too. Those are the most accurate. Who predicts weather better than pets anyway? Why not have a cat scan done by a cat?

The surgery is set for 8/25/10, just 6 days out now. I am a bit nervous at times, then I'm okay with it for a while. It's kind of an emotional roller coaster. The thing that keeps my sanity is keeping my focus on how much better I will feel after I recover.
The surgery should take about 3 hours, then I'll be in the critical cardiac care unit for 2 days, then 5 more days in the general cardiac ward. Then I go home for an 8 week recovery. It'll be good to have it done and over.

Hi pumpkin. I hope you get well fast. I agree with what the other members are saying too though. The sooner you start the sooner you feel better. I know its a tough thing to go through, but its not the danger it was because doctors know so much more about it than they ever have before.

Yep, that's very true Kimm. At least this is the first time this surgery has ever been done. It's not a common procedure for heart surgery, but the surgeon doing my operation is very experienced at this particular thing. That reasures me.
Well, I heading out for the hospital. I will catch up with you all soon. I maybe can get Mrs. Pumpkin to post how things are going if she has a chance to. Catch ya'all later.

If things have gone according to schedule Pumpkin underwent this surgery on Wednesday. By now he should be recovering. I will continue to pray for those results until we get an update here.
I encourage all to do the same and for those who are not of a religious back ground please take a moment out of your day and wish for Pumpkin's speedy recovery.

Hey, sorry it's taken so long to get back on the board. I just got home from the hospital on Saturday 9/11.
To say things were rough is a massive understatement. The surgery itself went fine. The trouble started with post surgerical bleeding which showed in the chest tube drainage.
I had to have several units of red blood cells and plasma. The bleeding finally slowed to a stop--just before they were about to take me back into surgery to look for the "bleeder" or source.
Then I later went into atrial fibrillation, an arrhrythmia that puts you at a high risk for stroke. The meds they put me on to threat the a-fib made me incredibly sick--only happens in small percentage of cases. Just had to be me of course.
So, I had to be "cardioverted" or have my heart shocked back into a normal sinus rhythm. Thankfully I was sedated for that. They used my implanted defibrillator to deliver the shock. It worked, but I was still sicker than a dog.
It took about 8 days for the medication that made me so sick to get out of my system. I needed a unit of packed red blood cells to help with the anemia I had from not being able to tolerate food for many days.
So, I was in the hospital a total of 17 days.....I was SO glad to get home again. I'm getting stronger every day, and the surgery itself was a smashing success. The obstruction no longer exists! It will be about 6 more weeks of recovery, then I can get on with my life again. It's good to be back. ;D

It is so good to have you back and on your way to good health my friend. I am so glad your surgery was a success. We at lewasite have all been right there with you. Keep on getting stronger . Don't forget to post some of your "Hospital Farts" stories. All those I.V.s and hospital food not to mention bed pans, must have given you monster gas. ;D
