A "Laser SB3" is a boat.
-aw aidan! a boat? how boring!
-not so my friends, this boat is something special.
-really? how?
-well first of all, it costs as much as a good quality car..
-rich kid....
-hold on now, I wont deny it, but....this is special. I have been waiting on this for almost a year.
-ok, so I know its a boat, and its expensive, what else?
-this is brand new, of the shelves so to speak. It's only on the market a year (1 season) and has already a huge following in ireland. 70+ boats, which is more per capita than any other country. with national and international regattas held during the year, and its also got a PY rating!
- ¬¬ PY?
-oh ya, portsmouth yardstick, it means it can race with both dinghies and cruiser racers! more racing than any other boat can do.
- well, thats nice. so how big is it?

- well, actually, nope! all I can advise is that we already have a boat called "Thats Life!" after the frank sinatra song, and something related would be great.

- yep. Ill also be using this blog as a news page for the boat. Ill post updates, results, news, and pictures as frequently as possible. - wow, thats kind of cool.

I don't understand much of the info about the boat I don't know boats that well but that sure is a pretty boat in the picture. ;D

classic:
well, in the class rules, it states you must carry an outboard (detachable) 2stroke engine. But you wouldn't sail it to cruise and when you race, its illegal to keep the motor outside, you have to put it on a rack in the hull. So I would say sail only, but with motor capabillties.

so any ideas for a name?
We've figured out our first problem already, and we havn't even got seen the boat!

because the boat is a "trailer sailer" it has to be launched and retrieved with every race. the problem, is with the keel (big long heavy deep thing that keeps it upright). Because the boat goes up on a traler after every sail, nobody could afford a crane at every race so the keel is meant to be lowered and dropped so it can just be sailed onto the trailer on a slipway.

now the problem, after the boat is launched, it needs a platform to moore against to lower the keel with a small crane that is attached to the boat and hand lowered. where we sail, there is no marina and when the tide is out, we cant even come alongside the pier to do it. So just a small problem [/sarcasm]

comical names are good too. there was a boat called cunch o' bunts in the club last year.

Dad's pushing marthas fury, and its in Dublin. He has to go and pick it up on tuesday, a three hour drive away.
