How about BOWLING FOR SOUP?
I just got a DOORS GREATEST HITS and I like it a lot.
I hadn't really given the DOORS much thought other than being a band played on oldies stations. But they really did some great stuff.

But they really did some great stuff. i love the doors, I have their greatest hits CD, record, and the movie. jim morrison had some of the best vocals ever, one of the only singers I would/could actually immitate in a cover band.

You need to record yourselves and host it here.
For an update on my song, I let a few very musically inclined friends listen to the instrumentation and read the lyrics (as well as hear me singing parts) and they said it was really awesome. However, I can't record well at my house so the final version will be awhile in the making.

Well, the new Therion album... sucks. Gothic Kaballah really doesn't match the high standard of the rest of their career. Personally, it sounds like they're an entirely different band. I am at a loss for words.
And am now looking for other bands. Opeth is looking really promising. The one album I've managed to "acquire" so far is incredible. Definitely looking for more of it right now.
Listening to plenty of Therion, Demonoid, and the aforementioned Opeth. Demonoid's pretty sweet. Take Therion, replace the drummer with a different drummer, and get them to play straight black metal. It's the first band with the scratchy vocals that I've really enjoyed, and is leading me to branch more into that genre.
And Weird Al. Always Weird Al.

This may be the best song ever
Wild Pack of Family Dogs - Modest Mouse
A wild pack of family dogs, came running through the yard one day, My father grabbed his gun, shot it up, they ran away, OK,
A wild pack of family dogs came running through the yard, And as my own dog ran away, Didn't say much of anything at all, Didn't say much of anything at all, Didn't say much of anything at all,
A wild pack of family dogs came running through the yard, As my little sister play, the dogs took her away,
And, I guess she was eaten up OK, Yeah, she was eaten up OK, My mother's crying blood dust now, Mother's crying blood dust now, Mother's crying blood dust now,
My daddy quit his job today, Well, I guess he was fired, But, that's OK,
And I'm sitting outside by my mud and lake, Waiting for the pack to take me away, Right after I die, the dogs start floating up toward the glowing sky,
Now they will receive their rewards, Now they will receive their rewards, Now they will receive their rewards.

*It starts off...a dark stage and then a beam of light, and you can see me and my guitar*
In the end of time There was a man who knew the road And the writing, was written on the stone
*And then a thin layer of fog comes in around my ankles Roadies that means dry ice we're gonna talk about this later*
In the ancient time An artist led the way But no one, seemed to understand
*Chimes, Freddy*
In his heart he knew The artist must be true But the legend, of the rent was way past due
*And then Katie you come in with the bass*
* Rim bim bim bim bim bim bim bee doo do bee do do be do Rum bum bum bum bum bum bum bee do do BOP*
Well you think you'll be just fine...without me, but your mine! You think you can, kick me out of the band
*And then Zach you come in with the face melter*
Well there's just one problem there The band is mine How can you kick me out...of what is mine
*And then...Hawaii 5-0, you ever see that show? O.K. well there's a drum solo in there... Shigadugadugdugadugaduga*
You’re not hardcore Unless you live hardcore
*And then... that's where I want the back-up singers to be like*
Well you’re not hardcore (No you’re not hardcore) Unless you live hardcore (Unless you live hardcore) But the legend of the rent was way hardcore
*Boom! Big ol' explosion...some like confetti comes down Anyway, that's all I got so far, it's a work in progress*
Haha, THATS the greatest song ever(Jack Black on the Movie School of Rock for those of you who dont know)
anyway, me, kurt and a few friends MIGHT(big might) be playing at our schools Battle of the Bands.
our set list would be something like this
Jet - Are you gunna be my girl School of rock - Legend of the rent Doors song maybe? I would like to do YYZ
AS FOR GOOD BANDS
You guys might want to check out Jet Set Satellite their first album, blueprint I think, was is great, one of the first albums I ever owned.

I like Demonoid too, they have lots of quality stuff. speeds could be better there though. Somehow, I have toruble thinking you listen to Demonoid. They'r not about speed, they're about guitar riffs. In fact, the band was formed with the sole intent of giving the lead guitarist from Therion a chance to do much heavier stuff. Currently searching for bands similar to Therion. And black metal. Dissection kind of appeals to me, but I have no idea why.
