It's easy. Compare names, run times, and file sizes to other songs before downloading. Its not that hard to change the ID3 tags for title, composer, length, etc. Than just throw in null data to get the size around something reasonable. For it to be a virus then you would have to manually change the .format for it to do anything. 1. I click the "song" (in mp3 format) 2. irfanview (music player) loads 3. "virus detected" message pops up 4. no song plays, obviously |

Anyway, music files can be corrupt, but that doesn't mean that it's a virus. Sadly, you aren't going to get pwntedz0rzromfgzr0krfoflgaggd by a .mp3

well thats why it was a weak virus  I'm sure with some programming you could get a computer to think that a good virus is a mp3 file. oh, and irfanview is a media thingy that can play/view/edit/open/whatever aroun 600 different file types. I use for quick song previews and such, large playlist goes to winamp. |

then you shouldn't be getting virus messages from mp3's. And just because you can program, doesn't mean you can configure everything. I can program my VCR, I must be able to configure every UNIX-based program in the universe! |

well tell me: does being able to configure a program mean being able to tell that a program's a virus even though it looks exactly the same as another program that works?
I don't know about you, but I generally don't check the programming for my .mp3 files.

You'd have to configure windows to open MP3's as an executable for them to do anything, and the virus wouldn't be detected if it was opened with a media program. The virus would be detected when it was installed, unless you're using a noob virus protection program, or can't configure it so it works like it should.
