I sure agree with Mahnarch about the 3 choices for motor for the S10. The postal mail trucks are built by Grumman on the body but the drivetrain is a 4 cylinder Chevy S10 and they are unbelievably gutless.
The 2.8 is a good balance for power and gas mileage.

Mist. The power steering won't bother things much. Steering is based on speed. The faster you drive the easier it gets - because the steer wheels (the front ones) will have les 'friction time' to be a hastle. But, if you don't get the steering fixed, then only thing that'll wear out is your arms. The steering box, radius arm, tie-rods and control arms don't know if the pump is working or not. Plus, if you go without power steering....your arms will be HUGE!!! ^ That's Mist in 2 years...

Phil said:Is GMC included in that list? It's basically the same thing....really. I have a '95 GMC K1500 and I can pull parts off a Chevy K1500 GMC and Chevrolet are exactly the same. My work has ordered new vehicles and had them come in saying Custom Deluxe on 1 side and Sierra Classic on the other. Blazer on 1 side and Jimmy on the other and having Uniroyal on 1 side and General tires on the other. A truck used to follow the trains was an S10 Blazer. But it had a GMC steering wheel and glove box cover. It also had badges that said 4.3l on the fenders when it had a 2.8 engine. And it came that way I remember when it was new.

You can hit a lot of home runs with that physique. I hope that guy's not a 3rdbaseman. Its cool on the truck Mist. I was attached to my 74 F150. But it did good for me until I got to a point where I could have newer stuff.

If he was a third baseman,,,a lot of people would be dead from blunt force trauma...lol.

When I used to work on cars for a living I'd be sitting on the radiator of a GM pick up truck and order intake gasket kits (or whatever) from my local Carquest.
Usually, I'd forget if I was working on a GMC or a Chevy so I'd default to a GMC. Then my deliver guy would show up and say, [/i]"Hey! This ain't a GMC!"[/i]
It was an inside joke we had for years.
I could also just say, [/i]"I got a '98 K15 (C15 for 2wd). I need......"[/i] and I'd get the right parts.
I don't know why they don't just combine them. It's not like there's a difference in comfort or accessories like with the Crown Vic and Grand Marquis.
"Brakes!" "Tires!" "Water...pump!" "Wind...shield washers!" "Heat....er motor!"
..."With your powers combined......I AM CAPTAIN PICKUP!!!"
"Captain Pick Up. He's a tow-er. He's going to pull your loaded trailer.... He's a your car parts, generalized. You can't tell one from the other.."
That's the best I can do on such short notice....Heh! You gotta sing it in tune, though.

All the auto makers do that though. My Chevy is the same as a GMC. There's not any mechanical difference between a Ford and a Mercury. A Merc tends to have more plush interior a slightly different dash and perhaps different headlights and taillights.
Chrysler discontinued Plymouth to cut production costs. Its sad to see a long name in car making disappear but for practical purposes they didn't need Plymouth because its the same as a Dodge.

Congrats, Mist!!
Just keep it between the ditches, as they say!...
....and sizes does matter....
Respect the guys with more wheels than you.

I have a story to share, and I WAS going to start a new thread on it but, I think it'll do OK here.
Some guy tried to use me as a suicide/murder device today!
This car is coming at me and I could see that the occupants were in a heavy fight. He was yelling while looking at the road and she was sitting sideways in her seat, screaming at him.
As their car approached my semi the guy dips his car into my lane (on purpose) and I see the girl grab his arm in terror.....
....and I'm like, "Oh yeah, little man? You wanna test out this little theory of yours?"...
Of course, I said that after he'd already returned to his own lane and passed me. I'd have swerved out of his way - mail boxes are better than human lives over something that was probably stupid but, I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!!!
This guy was going to involve me in something that....I don't even have the words, really.
I'm sounding really tough right now...but, when it comes down to it...
....why?.......and, why ME? How do I explain two road pizzas to my boss? How do I explain a row of mail boxes to my boss on the other hand?
And the fight was probably over something stupid, like "Why don't you like the color of my hair dye?"
***
So, Mist, if you ever get into a fight with your girlfriend while driving, just remember:
3,800lb truck vs 65,000lb semi....
Odds are...you ain't walking away.
