last Friday in my returns I found a pair of girls basic editions pants with a Sofia Vega upc tag from ladieswear on it. first thing I thought is nobody could be that stupid to allow someone to return this. today I found out I was wrong. I took it to the lead in ladieswear today because I was on day shift with her. she said someone returned it and got $30.00 back that they shouldn't of. someone is going to have to say something to them. the manager was called over by Karen the lead and said look what someone did. the manager took it and said I don't believe this. I am guessing front end was told.....again about returning clothes where upc tags don't match the name brands. what made me angry was later when Tiffany the new girl came in they gave the pants to her when she got returns. I saw it on the basket and gave it to pat when I explained what happened. in order to sell it on the floor they should of taken the upc off and made a label on it since upc number was in the pants under the size. they have done this before and were told to look at upc tags when returning items. we have a new girl that was hired and she claimed nobody told her the fitting room has to be cleaned out. pat told me she has used this excuse three times and maybe she is having trouble learning things. but cleaning the fitting room is common sense and I know when you get trained they tell you to clean it every hour. things just run smoother when people do their jobs.

Its getting so people care less and less about their jobs and doing it right. They care only about the paycheck and have very little if any pride in having the job done right.

You're both right people are looking for a paycheck and not to work.
People who seek a job are only seeking pay. Work is responsibility, work is accomplishment, and commitment. I make that clear to my children. I do not take the days off that their friends fathers take. Those that have jobs that is. I will not get into the other element right now.
I explain that when I get double shifted its something that is inconvenient but the job needs me and that's how I pay for the things we have, need or want. I have been asked by the kids why I only take so few days off a year, I give them a similar answer. Its a commitment and that's how I pay for our house, vehicles, their games toys and the things we have or want.
Even simple things like concert tickets. It all comes from 1 place, WORK!
Too many people see a job as an inconvenience but the only way to get money. Not a living or a responsibility. Too many of the younger people run from responsibility believing that learning to do more will make it so more demand is placed on them.
In reality learning to do more also means more opportunity but not enough people see it that way
I started where I am not 22 years ago. I was just about to turn 19 years old. By the time I was 25 I was paid more and given more responsibility than a number of guys well into their 40s with 15 to 20 years on the job. The guys who only do what they're here to do and no extra, the guys who quietly hope their noticed busy washing a window and aren't asked to participate in a major project.
We make those choices. The same that Angel607 mentions will also not have any more important work 15 years from now than they have today.

i could not have said it better myself everyone. it's all about the money now. work gets in the way of their social life. my job doesn't get mad when I request days off but calling off they don't care for. I was fired up because the employe that took the return back was careless. not only that but Kmart losing money hurts us the employe's. to pay for that $30.00 loss they cut our hours. I have herd so many young people complain their stuck working while their friends are at home having parties and it's not fair. you know it's not a party when your job cuts your hours so bad your considered lucky you can still make cell phone payments. when I got cut it depressed me so bad. you can request days off and make time for your friends but it's your job that pays you money that allows you to have fun. you don't need to call off because there is a party you can't miss or you need to get your hair done. I wish people would put more thought into their job and not screw things up.

Good post Angel607. Someone pays for things when there's a problem. Kids who work at 7-11 or other stores drink some of the inventory or eat a hotdog thinking its free. The owners paid for those items and eating them is a block for selling it. I am sure that a store owner would allow 1 drink once in a while. But most of those kids make that their meals.
Similar in stores. If an item is damaged to the point where it can't be sold the store absorbs that expense and will need to make up for it more than likely in reducing the payroll to cover that cost.

O I can really get going on this people just trying to get paid.
People ask for more hours but when you schedule them more hours they can't come in. Then you get them a little overtime they figure they can afford a day off so they call in or just blow it off altogether. Lazy people give back some of their pay. And they don't care if it costs their company money.
Whenever the owners need money fast they're going to fire some people. Its a definite. Its not the best way to get money but its the fastest bar none.
I have gotten less tolerant with ignorant losers. You need cheap labor to clean and do grunt work because I don't need skilled carpenters to clean scrap cuttings up. But I don't need stupid losers either. If they're not at work dependably and on time and not useful when they're here I get rid of them.
The economy has sucked for three years. There's not the new builds or remodels there were before that for several reasons. The economy is in the tank, and foreclosures are being sold kind of cheap people aren't needing to build new homes at the previous rate.
But if I'm less busy I don't need to hang onto extra labor I'll keep those who do good work and leave it at that.

On the surface it seems hard to continue to push when others are not. However I do realize that those non effort givers will never advance in status or pay and will be weeded out eventually. In the mean time its a bit difficult to see such people showing up only to collect a paycheck.

that's the one thing I could never understand. people who ask for extra hours because they need the money but they don't want to work because hanging with their friends is more important. I would think if your hard up on money needing it you would do anything it takes for more hours. I knew a girl years ago who had a son and always complained about her hours being cut. she asked me to cover her shifts so much. I couldn't go to a water park which I had planned because she said she couldn't come in to work that day. then she showed up shopping and her mom called her that night. turns out she told her mom she was at work and kmart was mad she lied to them. people don't want to take their job seriously. they think it will always be there for them. but you keep screwing up they are not going to tolerate that.

I don't see it at all.
Almost never am I so sick that I can't go to work. Maybe twice a year I just feel that bad. And I will try medicine and try to get enough strength to get through the day. I don't like to miss a day's work or let people down when they're counting on me.

I don't like to miss a day's work or let people down when they're counting on me. I'm with you. When I played ball I was in constant fear they might find someone better. I didn't always tell the truth about injuries and ailments if I could play through them. I didn't have some of the things I should have had looked at done because I didn't want to be told not to play.

That happens in any job though. Perhaps less so than in sports, but real life isn't usually about seniority its really about who does it better.

i have taken days off like when my wisdom tooth erupted I took off the day it was pulled out I was to tired still to go in. there was another time I got sick swallowing to much water at a water park. I went into work after my friend gave me ear drops because my ears were in pain and I talked like a old man. people at the service desk laughed at me because they didn't even know that was me that paged. I sounded like someone else. the next day I woke up calling my friend crying because my ears were in so much pain and whenever I tried to brush my teeth or eat I almost threw up. she took me to the emergency room where they said I had a ear infection and pneumonia. if I didn't get in that day I would of been in the hospital because I should of went in sooner. I learned my lesson after that. luckily for me kmart understands if I call in sick because I don't do it often like some people have. but there are people who won't go to work because of a cold and they have a stuffed up nose. that you can take medicine for so it's not to bad. I am I am pretty healthy. some people like to take advantage of calling off so they can do things with friends but in the long run your comiment to your job should be more important. one of my worst days is when I worked 14 hours because three people quit with no 2 weeks notice. it was around thanksgiving when we were really busy.

Illness and having wisdom teeth pulled is fine. I am talking about lame reasons and then complaining about not having enough money.
I worked overnight lastnight/this morning and I will be going back tonight. YES it is my birthday. I do not take off because its my birthday like so many of the people I work with seem to think their birthday is a holiday.

that's good you don't take off. I think you can celebrate your birthday on your free time. I have never taken off for my birthday before but this year my friend wants to take me to wildwood new jersey to celebrate. july 7-9th. the 4th of july I will probaly be working but that's fine with me. I just really need a vacation. people are driving me nuts. they hired someone who is just not learning the ropes like getting returns. I know they don't call you until late in the day but just go up there and check every 4 hours at least. fitting room was trashed tonight. I had to deal with the most horrible person on the phone who kept yelling at me tonight. to many people come up with strange reasons why they need to call off. someone once had their mom call off for them and we had a meeting that you are in charge of talking directly to your manager about calling off.

You're taking a day for a special event that happens to be on your birthday from what I gather. Not just because its your birthday. Basically if that particular plan wasn't in the works you wouldn't have just taken the day off because its your birthday.
I never thought that was a solid reason either.

I am also fed up with the tug of war that goes on sometimes with various company leaders to have their way or to pull rank more or less to show or test whos rank and will has more strength.

A heads up, I will not be online tomorrow most likely. I will be leaving for Pittsburgh tonight around 6pm and will probably be there until about this time Thursday. If the work gets done as expected that's how it will go.
Its a hard push for 48 hours but I'll get a 3 day weekend because they will give me Thursday going into Friday off for going on this.

What is in Morgantown that needs the expertise of a railroad yard repairman?
