that's really nice you get a three day weekend. hard work pays off. and I agree classic people should not call off work because it's their birthday. you can celebrate and make plans when you are off. my friend lives in philly and she planned this so I don't want to say no. I put in my notice to have these days off ahead of time. I have never been to Wildwood new jersey and I am so excited. in retail you put up with so many angry people it's nice when you can get away from it all. this is the first time I have requested off for my birthday. I have learned one thing about not calling off. you get more used to coming into work and just getting the job done. I don't want to make anyone mad by calling off if I don't need to. Diamond did that and once she called off and then asked when is the next time she works. they said why are you planning to call off that day also. it was funny at the time. she was a horrible employee and I told people I can't stand working with her.

I am with the panel here Birthday is a lame reason to take off.
For Phil, your three day Weekend seems to be the reward for a six day week. If I understand this right, you worked your usual Sunday and Monday overnight, but then Tuesday, ended up being extra long and then Wednesday and Thursday you are working dayshift so they're not having you work Thursday night.
But there is payoff in the long weekend.
I don't know what is going to happen people in their early twenties think they're just going to walk in and get top dollar for the jobs. It's even happening in sports. Unproven players are seeking large contracts before they're willing to play at all. How do they prove their value if they have no statistics?

i really like the last part you said blastgirl. they come into work and do as little as possible and make others pick up their slack. we got a new girl at kmart and 2 co-workers complained about her not doing returns or cleaning out the fitting room. one time I came into work at 5 and I was angry the fitting room was trashed. she was walking around with a tiny bit of clothes in her basket. that's just unacceptable. she also does the returns by putting clothes on any rack with different name brands. reguler price clothes in with the clearence. big mens jeans in with the regular sizes. your getting paid to do your job so I think people should put in some effort. being labeled a slacker makes you look bad.

....and texting and facebooking with their phone while at work.
Our work is sometimes dangerous too. Not always but there's lots of times you have to lift heavy objects and place them strategically.
When you're counting on someone to do their part to keep the chain going and they're looking at their text message it gets really maddening.

i agree with you it does make me mad to. your here at work to get a job done your phones are not important. they will be waiting when you punch out. I herd in new jersey they will fine you for walking and texting. many people got hit by cars texting on their phone. not to mention how dangerous on the phone while driving people need to pay attention. I go to the malls and it's hard to get around these teenage crowds because they are facebooking on their phones. I turn my phone off when I am at Dorney a amusement park then turn my phone on when I am sitting down eating. I don't text and walk though or text when I am with a friend. my phone is just not that important.

Phil, from what I understand you have some young crew members that probably don't need their phone on the job.
I don't know much about your work but from the posts I have read, you have a crew leader would be that Brian fellow you mention a lot. You are one of the crew leaders and you have a status where they allow you to be alone on some work assignments.
If that's the case they could make the others turn their phones off or turn them in when the day starts. That Brian guy and you would need the phone for a possible call or reassignment.
If there was a big problem or they needed to reschedule your crew they, from what I gather, would cal Brian or you not the others anyway. If there came a time when one of them needed their phone they could waive the rule and let them turn it on for a period of hours until whatever the issue was is solved.
Just how it looks to me from what I have ready of your posts.

That's pretty true Classic. In fact that's been suggested that the only guys on our crew higher ups need to talk to regularly are Brian and I the others most of the time can live without their phone especially on an overnight crew. Brian has said that to the younger guys too. He has said things like 'Anyone who is purposefull is either at work or asleep at this hour. If you have jobless do nothing friends who just want to text or play games they can do that on your time not mine.'
