i remember when diamond was working at kmart at the time of inventory and my co-worker said all she did was complain of working 40 hours. I told pat I was doing 60 that week so she should learn to get used to it because 40 isn't even bad. luckily I am happy to say all slackers are gone thank god. they tick me off complaining or standing around talking about guys. diamond was the worst I have ever seen. I never saw someone brag to everyone at work being arrested in a short dress then threaten to have her uncle sue them because they were rough with her. one girl did nothing then quit because at 18 her parents were giving her a allowence. they fired a guy on checkouts because he went to work while on drugs. I think their parents need to get after them and know what they are doing because they didn't do a good job. the funniest thing I ever herd was a teenager came up to me and said I can't believe they asked me to come in on my day off. I don't know what planet she came from but many people all over the world have to work on their day off. when I worked at arby's I was not even allowed to take off and go to the doctor's when I was sick. wasn't till they found me passed out on the floor with strep throat I was allowed to go home. I didn't know how strict fast food was but after that I never want to work for a place like that. kmart is actually nice to me and they never did what arby's did to me.

There's too much of this. People don't want jobs and hours, really, they just want more pay but they don't want to do what they're being paid to do. They just want to be there and log up hours.
An emergency repair needed the other day at work our foreman Brian called me and says 'meet me at *location* I have the rest of our crew painting a hallway. They need a furnace replaced and I figure the others would just be in our way. so meet me there and the others can paint til we're finished.'
I know what he meant though. The others would try to make that take as much of the shift as possible so they wouldn't have to do anything else that day.

that's horrible they would do that. everyone should be lucky just to have a job. if they catch you slacking alot I would be afraid of losing my job. plus when you work it makes time go faster so it's better then doing nothing.

You're right. I agree with you. My brother, Thunderbird says similar things to this though. That guys try to milk the day if possible. He employs over 100 people. In construction.

i never understood slackers. when they slack and they think the boss isn't looking well they are. and in that moment they could be out of a job and no money to pay bills. I can understand to slack one day because something bad happened but not everyday they punch in. the minute you slack someone could be in the wings to take your place. in construction I would think people would want to get things done at a fast pace so they can look at the finished piece. it's really good when you can build something with your own hands. look back at it and say wow I can't belive I finished all that it's a good feeling. the one girl at work I thought was good turns out she is putting returns anywhere just to get done. I found boys packaged t-shirts in with the mens, plus size women's jeans in with the reugular sizes. yesterday I had to explain to a lady I couldn't give her a jacilyn smith jacket for $11.99 even though she found lots of them in the $2.99 clearence rack. I am guessing caitlyn did that. now it's getting to be really annoying. I could be full time but instead they have to hire incapable people of doing their job so I have more to do.

Sure I think we all have days when we're just not into it. No matter how hard we usually work we all have an occasional day when we do less or we know in our heart we could have done more. Who hasn't done that?
Most of what we're discussing here are those who try to get as little done as possible and like Angel607 says they think the boss doesn't know. The boss with very few exceptions didn't get to where they are by not being aware of their surroundings. Or by mailing it in.
If I understand the post correctly the price was mislabeled or the jacket was placed on a shelf with clearance pricing even though that wasn't a clearance item and the customer felt the store should eat it because it was mislabeled?
If that's the case I am going to take that white shoe polish car dealers use and go down to the dealership and write $500 on the windshield of a new Buick and surprise my wife with a nice new Buick.
I bet it wont work.
In Angel's post if I understand it correctly and I think I do, the stupid staff placed the coats on the wrong rack to create this awkward debate that didn't need to happen in the 1st place.

We have the misplaced merchandise issue at Wal Mart a lot. If they find and item in the wrong place they think they should get it for that price.Only if the item is priced wrong by us do they get it at that price. So if a Jack LaLaine power juicer for 99 bucks is in the place of a Rival Blender for 29 bucks they don't get it for 29 bucks.

I'm surprised even then they can get it at the low price. I just started working in retail a little over a year ago but if a baseball glove is priced at $259.99 and it happened to be accidentally labeled at $59.99, missing the 2, we would simply say "I am sorry but that is a misprint. You can't get a Rawlings pro series glove for that price." I'd rather piss off one customer one time than get fired." There is a lot of lack of common sense though. We see it everyday. Obviously the members of this board view most ways of life similar. But there is an element of

Phil your exactly right. our new employee from what I have been told is putting clothes anywhere. I found boys t-shirts in with mens women's plus clothing in with regular. men's big size jeans in with regular. ladies regular price clothes in with the clearence. it makes more work on me when I am straightening at night having to walk to other departments and put it in the right spot. I just wish people would pay attention to their job.

That's just a simple product of not caring enough about their job to do a simple part of it right.

for me it's really hard to get raises. I am lucky to get 10 cents after a year. 2 years ago they said other people did not get a raise so don't tell anyone. they gave me a raise because I worked hard and during the one snowstorm that was really bad when 90 percent of the floor called off I came in. I paid for a motel and walked to work. they said that takes dedication. that was when we had blizzard conditions and kmart ended up closing early at 3 but I got paid for a full day. I know Diamond when she was there she was angry she got no raise but she took long breaks and they knew about that. also when you page her your lucky if she answers you after three times. she was so lazy.

I just had my four year evaluation at Wal Mart. I have always got an "exceeds" performance and a 50 cent raise. I work very hard and hardly ever call out. I found out that a lot of associates don't get "exceeds" . We have a young man who was injured in our freezer and was off work for 6 months. He was miffed when he did not get a full raise when he came back.Sheesh! He was not here.

that's great it sounds like Walmart give raises to hard working people you deserve that. as for the person that was hurt I don't think raises should come to those who were not there. I know they had a reason to not be at work but raises are for people who come in and don't slack off. there is to much lazy people in retail along with other places. last night some guy was told about being on the cell phone texting on the floor. when someone sees that there is a number to call and complain to because they find it rude. if your a guy expecting a child soon or a woman needing a cell phone for emergencies because they get sick or have astma attacks I can understand that. but there are people just texting away not doing a thing that makes me so mad. I think kmart is very stingy on giving people raises. 10 cents is a slap in the face. I hope they change that policy but with the stores not doing so good I don't know anymore. people want to slack but if only they knew how bad the economy was maybe they would do their job. I used to have a friend that said he could do my job so much better then me. this was coming from someone who was fired in mcdonalds for not doing something after two years. i'll tell you when my job tells me to jump I say how high. when people tell me retail is not a real job I tell them have you ever covered jewelery, checkouts, ladies, mens and kids while running the regesters over christmas because of not enough help. it's very hard. I think retail is a real job because we do alot of work.

I don't get frustrated too often.
I have the impression that most of the members of this board believe in fair play and get frustrated whenever you run across someone who doesn't.
I played ball for years and no doubt I've been heckled. I've been the hometown hero but I also know what its like to be booed off the baseball field.
I did not play on the largest of scales but I still experienced plenty of how the fans' liking of players can be so very fickle.
I've heard my shares of "Palmer you suck" if I made an out or neglected go catch a ball that should have been in my glove.
Well, the fans paid their money to see good play and if I don't give them that maybe as far as their concerned and at that moment in time I do suck.
I can manage critique that way. I tried to stay away from the paper and the radio if I didn't play well or the team was on a losing streak. Most of the time I could even take that in stride. I did have one particular nemesis who I would say lots of times this dumbass wouldn't know a bat if he stepped on one seems to have a lot to say about how I play the game but I've mostly ignored negative reports.

I don't know that I could be a public figure for that reason. Being the target of the public critique. I realize it comes with the territory but I wouldn't care to have it that way. Political leaders are in that boat too.

Political leaders are in that boat too. It does. Obviously that's a deal you make when you take those positions. Obviously I'm not A Rod but I do still accept a variety of public opinion when I played for the AA teams. We are still playing to a paying audience who came to see us perform and if we don't do that to par we're subject to them feeling as if they have not received their money's worth. Once in a while even in restaurants and stores someone would comment but the feedback there is usually positive. I absolutely avoid bars after games. I'm not a heavy drinker anyway but that's the place to avoid after any game more than ever after a loss.
