Ok all right. Obama gets a Nobel Peace prize. And he gets this for... what?
Its no secret that I do not support Obama. His liberal politics are different from my beliefs. I made no bones about the idea that I was not going to and then did not vote for him.
I also said after he did get elected both in text here and in video on YouTube that even though I did not vote for him, it was a fair election and he won the job and I would give him a chance.
Since his views on most things are different from mine he has not really pleased me as President. Not withstanding though what did he do to win a Nobel peace prize?
A few mentions that he was not in full favor of the war in Iraq makes him a candidate? He has worked as a lawyer, a professor, a Senator which he served only half of 1 term and now holds the office as President of the United States.
Can anybody see this as adding up to a Nobel peace prize?
I am sorry but I can not.

I think its because the press so hates George W Bush that was a way to slap at him and any other conservative politicians. Phil, I feel the way you do about Bush I think he made his share of mistakes but he did keep the country safer and reminded terrorist leaders by example that the United States is a force to recon with.
But the decision for the Nobel Prize was made in early February when he hadnt even been in office 2 full weeks.

I don't understand why he's being given that. I don't know what qualifies someone for it, but I imagine you have to have done something pretty important.

i dont know enough about what you have to do to win that either
i know my dad is awful pist and my mom isnt happy either but she isnt as funny at mocking people out as my dad is i dont think being a senater and a president elect is enough i dont know if he wrote any books that were helpful or something saying he was opposed to a war is kind of peaceful even though I have no problem with the war
he hasnt realy done anything to end the war if he is so redickly opposing to it though

Obviously I don't know a lot about the Nobel Peace prize either. I don't believe a minor league baseball player has ever won it though, and I don't see myself being the first. Obviously there's reasons they pick people and I am not fully up on what those reasons are.
It does seem as if they're always looking for something unique not necessarily indicative of the prize's name though.
The unique thing here obviously is the first racial minority being elected President. Obama has made some rounds discussion of a cease fire on the war that might have drawn consideration. I hate to have this be the thing but I think its gotten as if the Nobel peace prize is to do something unique like being the first black man elected President, Jimmy Carter physically built homes on his Habitat for Humanity that's not like a former President that was his unique feature.
It seems to be along those lines.

It's not just conservatives throwing a fit over this. It's anybody with common sense. The reason is absolutely obvious: Obama has done absolutely nothing in the course of his first eight months as president of this country to deserve the Noble Peace Prize. From what I understand, his nomination was put into the committee just two weeks after he was sworn in as president. He hasn't cured a major disease, led a peaceful organization towards a great cause, or invented a new machine that benefitted all of humanity. Sorry for stating the obvious, but heres the reason he won. He's the first black president of the U.S. Theres his big accomplishment. And can you truly say he deserved this prestigious award after these other individuals were passed up in favor of him? "Sima Samar, women's rights activist in Afghanistan: "With dogged persistence and at great personal risk, she kept her schools and clinics open in Afghanistan even during the most repressive days of the Taliban regime, whose laws prohibited the education of girls past the age of eight. When the Taliban fell, Samar returned to Kabul and accepted the post of Minister for Women's Affairs." "Ingrid Betancourt: French-Colombian ex-hostage held for six years." "Dr. Denis Mukwege: Doctor, founder and head of Panzi Hospital in Bukavu, Democratic Republic of Congo. He has dedicated his life to helping Congolese women and girls who are victims of gang rape and brutal sexual violence." "Handicap International and Cluster Munition Coalition: "These organizations are recognized for their consistently serious efforts to clean up cluster bombs, also known as land mines. Innocent civilians are regularly killed worldwide because the unseen bombs explode when stepped upon." "Hu Jia, a human rights activist and an outspoken critic of the Chinese government, who was sentenced last year to a three-and-a-half-year prison term for 'inciting subversion of state power.'" "Wei Jingsheng, who spent 17 years in Chinese prisons for urging reforms of China's communist system. He now lives in the United States." www.weeklystandard.com/weblog...were_passe.asp'Nuff said.

i am not a conservative a liberal I dont realy know a lot about how I have learned that we have checks and balance so the president only has so much he can do without the congres and the supereme court to aprove of it
i do think it is because obama is a new president he wasnt that fameous 5 years ago and now he came in took the country by storm and got elected
that was a bandwagon jumping thing instead of a peace thing

The Peace prize awards people for trying.
Like how he tried to cut down on nukes.
They also awarded 3 terrorists the prize.

Has he actually done anything towards resolving nuclear arms? You also have to be careful about disarming too. Suppose the third world doesn't live up to the bargain and you do. They could become the first world really fast.

It wasn't a prize.
The leader of the army's opposition in NK who is still protesting while being under house arrest got the prize.
3 terrorists who were fighting for freedom got the prize.
Carter got the prize.
It was awarded to encourage them!

I'm thinking about running a 200 mile race in 5 years - and I plan on finishing in first place [15 hours ahead of the second place winner].
Perhaps they should just give me the blue ribbon right now!

Everybody here knows that I'm liberal, and that I did not care for Bush, but when I heard that Obama was going to get a Nobel Peace Prize, I, like everybody else, felt that he does not deserve it. Obama did not yet do anything to even deserve the prize.
But you do have to note that Obama said, while he is flattered about getting a Nobel Peace Prize, he feels that he did not do anything yet to deserve it. At least he's being honest.
