Recently went on a treasure hunt of my own, but it was in the basement at my grandparent's house. Last week I was looking for stuff to sell at the garage sale my parents and I had last Friday, and in a closet in the back basement, I discovered a box. At first I thought it was full of some old dishes, but upon opening the box, I saw that it was not dishes; it was my old Nintendo game system, and it had all the games, the controllers, the duck hunt gun, and all the wires to hook it up. For years I thought that my parents had sold it at a previous garage sale. I'm hoping to get it hooked up soon, and I'm hoping that it still works. I used to have a Super Nintendo. It was sold at an estate sale last fall. I remember Donkey Kong was my favorite game. Now that I'm used to PS2 and the 3D environments, I wouldn't want to go back.

My wife said that treasure hunting can start in my attic.
Hey, I keep things. I don't save garbage but I do keep things that could get used someday.

I think theres a lot of interest in treasure hunting. Sure some of what you find can be worth money but I would be just as interested in what you fine even if it has little to no monetary value. Anything old has some value but I would be interested in the historic element as much as anything else. I considered studying archeology but it was going to be too long to get the credentials for the jobs that I would have wanted. Im a bit squeamish about some of the necessary work involved too.
But the findings would be incredibly interesting.

have you ever found a big treasure chest? ;D if you did would you share it or would you keep it for yourself and tell people you found old garbage and nothing else? Finding a tresure chest would definitely mark that day as one of the best days of my life. And to answer your question, I would most definitely keep it for myself. Why? Got plenty of student loans to pay off in the near future. I haven't been able to get out there with my machine since college ended a couple of weeks ago. Toooooooo much work to do at home. My dad conveniently saves up months worth of yardwork for my brother and I to do when we're done mentally killing ourselves. Just wait until my brother and I start working actual jobs this week.

Do you have any inactive tracks where you live? If you do, take an atv, a motorcycle, a bike or just walk along those paths. You'll find some really interesting things. The things that get thrown on or near traintracks is amazing. I can't be sure you'll find real valuable things but I suppose it's possible.

jersey life did you find anything interesting lately? I still haven't had time to get out. Between my job working as a lifeguard during the week, and the archaeological dig on Saturdays, and the crushing amount of yardwork on Sundays, I just haven't had time. But I didn't spend all that money on the new machine for nothing. I'll get out there again at some point.

You find some things digging foundations too. It's funny that most of what gets found is interesting but not that valuable. The finders and the owners of the land fight over a fourune of some item they think is going ot make them wealthy only to have it valued and learn it's worth a few hundred dollars not the millions they thought.
If they had any sense they would figure the didn't pay anything for it, just their time so whatever you sell it for is more than you have invested and you still have your digging equipment.

My 5 year old found a lunch box that is probably 40 years old. We went for a walk yesterday.
Now he has 1 of my work hard hats and carries the lunch box. Someone must have tossed it or forgot the box but it's old school for sure.

That's cute that he makes the connection to the lunch box as with you. You probably pack a lunchbox for work and therefore he sees the hardhat and lunchbox as synonymous with his Dad's work.

Yeah you're right. He likes tools and nails though. He pounds nails into the dirt in the back yard. It's his thing.

I find indian head pennies all the time. I found an ivory box once on a camping trip I have no idea how old it is or how it got so far back in the woods either.
