Hi folks.....I wonder how comfortable I am going to be here after reading that "Asperger's Syndrome isn't real"........I lived with it for 50 YEARS before being diagnosed. I can tell you that it is VERY _UCKING REAL. You can polk fun at it all you want, but there's nothing funny to me about having an autism spectrum disorder. I'm not even the least bit "normal". Sorry. Maybe the intent of the discussion was all in fun. I don't know. But it really drills a nerve with me, and I have to listen to family, in-laws, and friends tell me that it isn't real. Funny, they spent 50 years telling me how F'ed up I was, then I get a diagnosis, and they all now are in denial that there is anything wrong with me. See, I get way too much of that sort of thing. Yeah, it's normal for a guy with a 120 IQ who has a bachelors degree with honors, who almost has a master's degree to work as a janitor all his life---until he couldn't work any more. I just couldn't understand people. I never have, and it looks like I never will. Nothing personal with anybody here, but this is one thing I can't joke about or see taken lightly. Believe it or not. Laugh at it; mock it. It's up to you. I won't and can't feature that. Want experts? Contact the Yale University Developmental Disorders Clinic. They have a webiste. There are a ton of other resources on Aspergers out there. Do the research if you are interested. I did. It's the only way I figured out what was wrong with me and finally got help----50 years too late----I wasn't some hyperactive kid. I was a 50 year old man when I was diagnosed. This may seem a trivial thing to be so upset about to most of you. You'd have to walk in my shoes to understand. You haven't. It's a disability folks! I have records going back to 1964 that document all my problems. Would you make fun of someone else with a disability? I have a hearing loss.....is that real to you? Are you gonna tell me that it isn't real because YOU don't see the hearing loss? Are the Drs. lying to me? I'll let you make of that what you will.......

Pumpkin....This isn't the thread for that. Hearing loss IS real. You can physically lose hearing and/or be deaf from environmental influence. I have hearing loss, myself. I can hear sound, but I can't always make out words. I don't brag about it, though. Nor do I want government assistance. In fact, this is the first time I've mentioned it, here. I will not get into Aspergers, here, though. I'm stepping away from that. but it's not real.

Was there a whole other part to this thing? Dude...I don't know, but if someone on here was talking smack about Pumpkin...they need to chill. I know what disabilities are and how un-fun it is. I'm ADD and have been on and off meds as a kid and the side effects outweigh the benefits, now it's less a matter of hyperness but concentration sometimes. Oh well...these days it seems everyone needs to be diagnosed with something, whether or not they are, nobody's perfect anyway. So, to Pumpkin, I say welcome, and stick around and tell those fart stories because they certainly were entertaining.

Just becuase he wasn't speaking to pumpkin personally doesn't mean it's still not insulting. Like guy 1: "Oh man I hate blacks" Guy 2: " Hey I'm black, what is wrong with you?" Guy 1: "Oh I wasn't talking to you personally, but blacks suck "

That thread was the majority of the board arguing with Mahnarch, with a few people not involved. We're not all as arrogant as he is.

Demona, there was a thread about Asperger's in another part of the forum, I think under random polls? I'm not sure. I read through some of it, and it got my blood boiling a bit.
Why did I respond to that topic in this thread? I didn't want what I had to say lost in 3 pages of dialogue, and yes, this is a very personal topic to me.
Having said that, I'm okay with Mahnarch. I have said what I have to say about the topic, and I will just have to agree to disagree with him. End of topic for me. Let's move on to better things.
One thing, I didn't get to celebrate my 50th with you folks...like a lot of you, I went to the fart site---gone! And I have had some mega-farts to let go too! Poor Mrs. Pumpkin. We went on a 4 day road trip. Yep, you know what that meant for her. I had to go on a high fiber diet lately......BLAREOOOFFFFFF!
