I haven't officially retired yet, but like I already posted in sports, my days as a baseball player for realistic sight are over. This morning I was at a middle school to discuss my life's story. Obviously its in a presentation that I was inspired to try to pursue a career in baseball. Starting with little league and working through to the highest level I played at AA. (I did get a brief trial run one spring for the Minnesota Twins) but I was let go fairly early in camp.
That did lead to me working even harder and striving for more that off season. I did not reach the majors but I came to camp in the best shape of my career and ran the table when the season started. I ended up with career highs in homeruns, batting average and runs bated in.
In my prepared speech I had planned on giving the answer that I will be seeking a job as a scout. Not fully true, but I was leery at first to tell the kids at a school that I'm 34 and don't really know what to do with my life just yet.
I changed my mind as I was speaking. I decided instead to tell the truth.
Obviously it was a long shot 15-16 years ago to even attempt to play any level of pro baseball but I got to do that. every year in the minors you wonder if you're going to get contracts renewed or just severed.
I dodged that bulled for many many years but now I can't dodge it, my playing career has come to a close.
Now at 34 I'm in the same boat as the students majority here. I don't really know what my job is going to be for the rest of my lfie. That was not to say I don't have options.
I will do something even if it's not a love calling job because I'm not a couch potato guy.
But I am going to take weeks, possibly months, definitely not years to resolve what to do next.
I touched on the story of my friend Carlos who I have mentioned here at Lewasite before. I will be doing something similar to today a few more times in the next month.

Thursday is opening day for my former league and I will not be on the field. Feeling bummed.
