September 11, 2001 is probably one of those days you remember where you were when you heard the news.
When I was a kid people would sometimes ask each other "where were you when John F Kennedy was shot? I was not born of course.
My grandpa asks people in his age group still "do you remember where you were when you heard the news about Pearl Harbor?
I think my grandpa is 82 years old so when Pearl Harbor happened he was in high school and remembers it quite clearly not like a kid with vague memories of people talking about the attack on the United states Navy base.
Pearl Harbor was a Sunday morning. In Hawaii it was the wee hours I think about 3am but in the American mainland most people were awake and moving. My grandfather says his family had finished church and he was riding a bike to town to go swimming when he got there the town closed the pool and shortly after that President Roosevelt made his declaration of War.
Whenever December 7 falls on a Sunday my grandfather says he recalls the happenings of the day that much more vividly.

Well this is the first serious catastrophe that will last throughout history that took place in my lifetime. And that I will remember I was 19 years old at the time. This is an event that will be taught of in social studies, and I remember it. I know exactly where I was.
I was working at my dads shop and breaking news hit the radio that an airplane hit one of the twin towers.
We were shocked about the accident until a short time later and while they were broadcasting a second plane hit the other tower and the pentagon. We then knew it was no accident.
Now we hear a report that a 4th plane destined for an unknown target was hijacked but passenger Todd Beemer and some accomplices had taken the plane back and crashed it in a field sacrificing their lives and Beemer's infant son for the safety of countless others.
September 11 rolled around 5 more times since that fateful morning, but today was the first time it fell on a Tuesday. I now know just what my grandfather means when he says about December 7 falling on a Sunday. It recreates the day even more exactly.
