The scary thing is they say the average bridge in America is about 40 years old.
I doubt they mean the pavement I'm sure they mean the girders the part that really holds it up.

Theres a foot bridge that I know of that was once a traffic bridge dating back to the 20s but in the late 1940s cars got bigger and more traffic the bridge was too small but it crosses a river.
Now its a pedestrian bridge it has been for 65 years but its had little if any maintenance.
Granted walkers are not as heavy as cars its a long way to be half way over to have it drop.

I read about this and traveling often I have often thought about the chance of a bridge collapsing. You never think it will actually happen though. That had to be a scary time that's all I can say.
Some of the victims' families were interviewed on tv this week I watched some of that from motel rooms.
