I just finished watching Catalyst (a science/future technology show), and the second "article" was this- www.abc.net.au/catalyst/stories/s1790109.htmAdvanced border control methods, for those who are interested, but that's not my point. Halfway through, some background music caught my.. ear, and on closer aural inspection, it turned out to be the menu theme music of a game called Plasma Pong! The digital composition was made by ES Posthumus, called "Pompeii", and what I'm wondering is whether it's legal or not to broadcast it without permission. They certainly didn't credit it anywhere.. Taken straight from the readme: PLASMA PONG v1.3 (c) 2006 Steve Taylor I'd assume that includes the music. If I'm wrong, then you are welcome to label me as a blundering idiot who'd feature well in a screenplay of "Much Ado About Nothing".

I would bet that they are suppose to pay royalties to someone.
My sister does live theater and whenever they put on a performance they have to get a permit for it. If mcm or whoever has the rights to that play. Same thing with music bars and entertainment places have to have licenses from sesec and bmi for rights to play their music because they have cover charges, so technically they're getting paid and the music is part of their income.
So thinking about it like that it is probably a must to have royalties paid somewhere in the form of a license or something.
