I was able to call someone I know who is from the Phillippines.
A former teammate I am still in contact with lives there. From what I'm told a number of homes are devistated, there have been about 40 deaths 100 or more injuries and flooded roads were as much as 5 feet in some places.
Floods are among the worst damages. I suppose a hurricane is a little worse but this was bad enough for those poor people.
By the way, if anybody would be so inclined a small donation might be nice.
For example, I sent 500 to an orgainzation, they say that will replace the roof on 2 houses.
Being that my brothers are in that business I have to tell you in our American econemy there's no chance of putting a roof on a house for less than 12,000 even the meterial costs would way exceed the cost.
So, my point being that a small amount of US funds could mean an aweful lot to a Phillipeno family.

That's a good borometer to see how some of the smaller Nations in the World measure in the financial chart.
Most Members here are from the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Norway Mexico and other manufacturing nations.
So outlooks on costs of things is completely different.

Wow. That's rough because when your country is an island and there's a natural disaster you're a sitting duck.
You could try to move but you would run out of room before you could get away from the storm.
I can't believe that you could get 2 houses roofed for 500bucks.
I suppose that the cost of meterials and labor is less expensive too. But I had to get a roof put on my house 3 years ago. I did it myself with some friends and the meterials to do it cost over 8000 so if I had it done it would have been a 16000-18000 by the time labor and various clean up costs are put in.
I rented a dumpster and my brother and some of our frineds did it that cut the price just about in half.

I doubt the meterials are the same standard but I agree. Even the Labor would be what you said.
I was just as shocked. A Phillippine peso is about 50p=1 US dollar. So they're worth about 2cents.
That extimation comes out to 500 is about 2200p. That was enough to do two roofs. I wouldn't have guessed that the Phillippines value of money to the US dollar but my friend was able to tell me.

I have never seen a typhoon but I understand they can be as deadly as a hurricane.
