Yeah. Talk about it here.
Here's an essay I wrote for school about it. It is very conservative. Please do not yell at me for what I believe. If you agree with something that's fine but remember, I love Bush and stuff, so... whatever. And I'm not racist, I jest don't like getting blown up.
9-11: The Aftereffects from My Point of View
by John Pavlick
On September 11, 2001, a group of nineteen terrorists affiliated with the Al-Qadea hijacked several American airplanes. Two crashed into both World Trade Centers in New York City, one crashed into the Pentagon, and another was crash-landed in rural Pennsylvania.
The results of the actions spurred by this event have been extremely controversial. President Bush has declared war on terrorism and he has sent our troops overseas to Iraq. Now unless you’ve been living in a box for a long period of time you probably already know this. The purpose of this essay is to simply describe the personal, national, and global effect the September 11th attacks have had on myself, our country, and the world we live in, respectively, from the viewpoint of a patriotic, Christian young man.
Personally, my eyes were opened to the threat of terror. I was only in sixth grade when this happened and I didn’t know much about terrorism or anything. I remember where I was when I found out... I was standing by the drinking fountain in the morning in school when another student told me that airplanes had hit the World Trade Centers. Being a somewhat sheltered child, I didn’t know what the World Trade Centers were or why somebody would want to run airplanes into them, but I did know it was bad. Later that day I watched the video footage of the planes crashing into the buildings and I think I grew up considerably that day as I became increasingly aware of the world, the news media, their lies, and how to sort out the truth from the ever-increasing onslaught of slander that everything that is good, right, and honest is subjected to thanks to said news media. Also, I realized how fortunate I was to be an American and not some poor child over in the Middle East that was brought up to believe that terrorist practices were not only the accepted norm but they were encouraged to the point that it would be an honor to die so that you could kill others that were not of your faith.
The September 11th attacks obviously had a great impact on our nation. Two of the tallest buildings in the nation - not to mention the world - were destroyed. Thousands of lives were lost. New heroes were lifted up to a generation that was desperately in need of them, and the nation’s battle cry was “America, never forget ” Suddenly patriotism was popular. Suddenly George W. Bush was lifted up as a great leader. Flags went up everywhere and people even said, “God bless America ” now and then. But in spite of all that happened, we, as people often do, began to forget. Despite the loss of literally thousands of lives, despite the imminent threat of another strike, despite the fact that there are several terrorist nations that are out there that have no greater desire than to see America taken down at the knees, and despite the fact that we told the rest of the world that we wouldn’t forget, we succumbed to human nature and forgot. Actually, it’s not so much that we forgot as that we stopped caring. Life got back to normal for most of America - the most that isn’t daily reminded of the attacks by getting up in the morning and seeing a place at the table empty where a father or husband or mother or wife once was. Now George W. Bush, thanks to our wonderful media, is nothing more than an idiot, a villain, a dullard that doesn’t know what he is doing. He is portrayed as a dictatorial leader that just loves to see his troops getting slaughtered, and in reality, if I may insert my own opinion here, the exact opposite is the case. Once the whole “America-is-banding-together-to-fight-the-forces-of-evil” marketing campaign unwittingly sold to us through our television sets lost its market, everybody just seemed to... forget. Funny how nowadays people’s memory of what happened is limited to what is spoon-fed us by the media. Now all anybody sees is how Big Bad Mr. President is sending our poor troops over there to get slaughtered. They don’t see how Iraq is turning into a democracy. They refuse to compare the body count of this campaign with the body count of the first day of Iwo Jima. Fact is, our nation was impacted for awhile. Now it simply doesn’t care. Now, to add insult to injury, foreigners of the nationality that mass-murdered thousands of innocent civilians in our country are given virtually as much freedom as we are while their relatives (you know, the ones that seem to always be trying to blow us up) slowly take our freedoms away by forcing there to be heavy restrictions on travel by flight. I’m not racist but I do believe that a good majority of foreigners from hostile nations should be limited in what they can and cannot do in our country. This is our country by the way. We live here. You who would rather complain about how much it sucks can go someplace else.
Lastly, the September 11th attacks have had a big global impact as well. (Boy, my gift for stating the obvious is really coming in handy here ) The price of oil has gone up so that it’s almost cheaper to fly long distances and with things the way they are nowadays, it’s almost as dangerous (or safe, depending on whether your glass is half empty or half full.) Nations have been set at odds on a crash course that will inevitably end in a full-blown world war in the not-too-distant future. However, it’s not all bad news. Iraq is finally getting a chance to live in freedom to a certain extent. Soon, children all won’t grow up thinking that it’s okay to blow up people in the name of some god that doesn’t even exist. In fact, missionaries are even finding their way into Iraq. The world isn’t over yet. Be that as it may, there is still a good chance of some third world country doing something really dumb and plunging the world into nuclear war where we all get blown away, but as long as the snow that is about to arrive up here in Gaylord isn’t brought about by a nuclear winter, I guess we’re all right for the time being.
