I guess you can just post random social and political things here. I'll start:
Reality check time:
6 people were murdered at a rave afterparty in a house on Capitol Hill (in Seattle) a few days ago. Four twentysomething guys, and two 15 and 14-year-old girls. The murderer, 28-year-old Kyle Huff, killed himself afterwards. This is the kind of thing that you hear about on the news all the time, but it really hit home to me. For one because it happened so close, but mostly because the two girls were my age and because I have friends who go to those kinds of parties.
Just thinking about that makes me shiver. My friends could have been killed. *shudder*
And the eyewitness accounts, uugh. "A flambouyant dresser in a furry coat and chicken hat, Verebly shook Wednesday as he dsecribed the scene that greeted him when he opened his eyes that morning. He saw Jeremy Martin fall. 'He had holes in his chest, smoking. . . and then another guy fell on top of him.' He saw Thorne, the teenage girl, trying to close the front door - and keep Huff out. 'She's hysterical and I try to play the part of the older male,' he said, adding that he tried to help her shut the door. But Huff pushed through with such force that he sent Thorne flying into the wall. 'She was still on the ground and her arms were slumped in front of her. . . It was so mechanical. He turned and killed her. I felt his eyes on me and I jumped at him. I just jumped and pushed him out of my way, and I ran and I could still hear him shooting.'"
God... 15 and 14-year old girls.... And he just... blew them away. Who does something like that?
