I am glad to see hockey back on. I went to the Maple Leafs game it was a disaster. The Leafs scored first but the Hurricanes scored 7 unanswered goals and walluped us 7-1.
Makes you wish you stayed home, eh

I like hockey a lot too, Hatson. There's nothing more miserable than having your team lit up at home. On the road you can change the tv channel but at the game its' worse because everybody is mad and impatient because of the game. That mood shows up leaving the arean and the parking lot and for however many blocks it takes for traffic to break up. Screaching brakes and horns and swearing follows a bad performance.

Hockey is a great game. I played it in high school. I also played football, and I was on the basketball practice squad. I didn't excel like I did at baseball but hockey is a fast and exciting game.

Hockey is a great game to watch live. Some folks don't like to watch it on tv because they say it's hard to follow the puck. I don't find that to be a problem myself.

I like hockey too. The camera follows the puck for you when you watch it on tv. I can't imagine why people say that but I have heard people say the same thing.
I love the pace of hockey because there's only a few things that cause stoppage of play really, no delay tactics, possession is up for grabs at all times and everybody is in the play at all times and you can change players during the play. It's awesome.

We don't have an NHL team in San Antonio, but we have an AHL team, the Rampage. I should check them out sometime. It's not near the NHL level, but hockey is hockey, and I love watching it.
I sure miss college hockey in Minnesota. When it was Minnesota against the St. Cloud State or Wisconsin, it doesn't get more intense than that. A lot of guys from those teams are or were playing in the NHL. I still follow college hockey in general, and there are a lot of good teams in Michigan and the northeast as well.

Check it out. I feel a personal link to the San Antonio Rampage in this particular topic. I am a minor league athlete. You get a good show from the minors because they still have something to prove.

I'm gonna check out the hockey team here. Come to think of it, we have a AA baseball team here too, the Missions.
I remember way back in the early 70's, there was another professional hockey league that competed with the NHL, the World Hockey Association. The WHA talent pool wasn't as good as the NHL, but dang, they had some fun games to watch.
There was a WHA team in St. Paul, the Minnesota Fighting Saints. I'd go to the Saints while everyone else went to the "real major league hockey" and watched the North Stars (before they became the Dallas Stars).
I was real happy to watch the "minors". The action was good and those guys played their hearts out. So, I'd definitely agree with what you said, Classic.

Some famous guys played in the WHA in the twilight of their career. Bobby and Dennis Hull. And actually Wayne Gretzky and the Edmonton Oilers began in the WHA. But when the WHA folded about 1979 the Edmonton Oilers, Quebec Nordiques, Winnipeg Jets and Hartford Whalers remained and joined the NHL.
All except for Edmonton have since relocated.
I would think minor league hockey and baseball would be like watching college sports. There's more heart and less ego.

There's heart but what there also is is desperation. Players in any sport at a collegiate or minor level are looking to go higher. But some of us are just trying to hang on too.
You don't want to be the oddman out. You don't want to be the guy who is cast aside or believed to be the reason for a losing streak or a lost series.
Or too too old to be worth their time. cough cough
Budgets are always in danger and minor league sports teams fold or uproot often. Most minor league teams are located in smaller cities. In a state like Illinois Chicago would get the Black Hawks, White Sox, Cubs, Bears and Bulls.
Springfield, Peoria, or Rockford would have smaller scale teams if at all.
And that's where it all comes into play. Minor league teams don't fill a 30,000 or more seat stadium every day. And there's not a huge commercial market for us. And we're not televised. A middle of the road AM station covers your broadcasts at best.
And that's why it's so tough.
So if you like sports, and you have a team in your area, goto a few games once in a while.
I'm not asking you to spend money you don't have. I'm not asking you to buy season tickets and go to every single home game. Go once in a while and support your team. And once again if you don't like baseball you don't have to go to games.
Go to the games of a team with the sports you do like. The players and the team really need that support.
