Julio Franco has homered at the age of 47. That is a new Major League record.
That's super.

Sports players are not only older than they were when I was a kid but they excel at higher ages than ever before.

In the 2002 Stanley Cup finals game 1, Ron Francis of the Carolina Hurricanes became the oldest player to score an overtime goal in a Cup series game at 39 and change. But only 2 days later, Igor Larionov of the Detroit Red Wings scored in overtime at age 41. So the record only lasted 48 hours.

Bad injuries this week. Aaron Rowand of the Philadephia Phillies went after a pop fly and hit his face against the outfield fence. He got a fat lip and will be disabled list for now. He did catch the ball though.
New York Yankees Hedecki Matsui (sp) will miss time he might have a broken wrist after chasing after a ball and landing on his arm. Those are a couple of bad injuries.

It was a great catch anyway. That's the thing though. You get caught up in running after that ball and you forget about the wall for just a moment and whack, you get a reminder.
