There seems to be a lot of home schoolers on this forum.
I always went to public school myself and my kid does too. My younger son is going to start kindergarten in September. My wife is considering private school but we will probably send him to kindergarten at the public school and decide after that.
Our public school system has a pretty good reputation but my wife has been intrigued by alternatives and has looked into them.

Public schooled.
I think it's OK for me. I haven't gotten any bad influences that many other people say. I went to an elementary school where the teachers actually make us see how its like in other religions and cultures since kindergarden, we even celebrated hannika (don't know spelling) and christmas. Then in middle school, it was strict enough, since nicknames were strictly prohibited along with bullying, they showed us a movie every year called "Broken Toy" which shows a true story about a kid that get picked on.
Though, when I got here, everything was different. Schools in large cities are really different from the ones in small towns.

Public school always. Not that it was fun in Jr. High, that was a nightmare, but people grow up in High School....mostly, and nearly all afterwards. As far as help on work went, if you need it, ask, you'll get it. The only main issue I had was the town I live in is snobby, and we had alot of the sort there. I do wonder what it would have been like to go to private, but money had been an issue at odd times, so that was out. Home school I don't think is a good idea through all the years because you miss out on things like clubs, teams, plays, and meeting a whole bunch of people who might not be so bad.

I had both.
I had Catholic schools from Kindergarten to 6th grade. But I went to public middle school grades 7 and 8, and public high school 9 through 12. Graduated in 1993.

Always public but Classic and I have not decided what Schools our Sons are going to go to. We will probably send them to public Schools if we stay here but if we end up moving at any point we may do otherwise.

I've been in public all of my life. My elementary, middle, and high school were public, and my university is a public (state) school.

Same here. Except the universities in Canada are privately run off of tuition fees but are also supplemented by money from the government. So they're a kind of quasi public/private institute.

Elementary: Public Middle: Public. Hated the people in that school. Loved my teachers and the school itself but other kids were ridiculous. High School: Public. Liked it a lot. University: It's actually considered a private instituation.

My son Jason has noticed that some of his friends who go to private schools get more days off.
They also seem to get more homework too. Maybe as a way of making up for those few extra days off.

I had fun in school.
But there's less homework when you're a jock. It's not fair but that's the way it is. Or at least it used to be .

Homeschooling and community college.
The public school in my area couldn't believe that I already knew how to read when I was at kindergarten age, and wouldn't let me into a higher grade or do anything besides re-teaching basic reading comprehension. As a result, I was home-schooled instead.

I'm surprised how many people are home schooled these days. It seems to be a good thing too from what recent reports say. Home schooled people are going to college at earlier ages, and testing higher on exams too. That's very telling.

I think its amazing that teachers in public schools draw higher salaries. Not always of course but for the most part thats true. Yet also for the most part private schools turn out better results therefore in most cases have better teaching.

I was brought up in public school and, for the most part, I was bored through the whole thing. They would hand the books out on the first day and I'd read the entire thing over that first week/weekend.
The rest of the year I'd just daydream and look at the pretty girls.
In homeschool, you don't get that. The only 'pretty girl' is your own mum.
I was held back in kindergarten because I was so bored (I could read, write in cursive and do math, already) that I didn't participate in class. The teacher thought I wasn't ready to move on/slow.
She never tested my real abilities.
I don't know. I'm just a wierdo, I guess.
