I love Puff The Magic Dragon by Peter Paul and Mary and have for over 45 years. I NEVER ever thought it had a thing to do with "MaryJane" until someone brought it up on YouTube. I downloaded the Original Video from the sixties.

Yeah. He was. Addictions control people sometimes instead of the other way around.
He did himself in over the years. Its just that I rememeber when him and Alan were in kindergarten and a little over a year ago a guy who was 9 years younger than me ends up dead.
He did spend some time at my place for it wasn't a couple months. It was about a month. But if I wanted to stay married he was going to have to leave. The deal was a month or less but it was a little bit over a month.
At that time Jason was about 3 and that lifestyle of having someone sleep in the living room and stagger in at 7am and pass out til noon. Hey I do that still!
J/K can't compare that to overnight shift work.
Seriously though his staying any longer would have been disruptive. It finally got to where I told him he had to go by a certain day and if he can't make it work He woudl have to check into a home. He got on a job program and lasted about 8 months and it started over.
Yeah that's a wasted life. That's all there is to it.

I've seen younger guys destroyed by substance. I agree it never gets easier to understand. I told the story about the guy who ended up shot in a crack house. All that talent to end up like that I'll never get it.

I remember that. That was about a year ago. I was so mad at someone for taking their birthday off from work. That's not a holiday. And I still feel that way. I will be at work on June 14!
