There has been a rise in child deaths related to having been left in a hot car. The one in Georgia is very disturbing and now another one has happened in Connecticut. How on earth do you forget a child! The Georgia case is looking toward homicide. Why would anyone do this to a child?

This day and age I can't see letting the kids stay in the car while you go in and do things. I remember I was a kid and sometimes my parents let me stay in the car while they went shopping. not for hours on end but for a fast item or 2. That was probably not a great idea then, but its a very bad idea now. With the things that happen to children today. Maybe it always did, but its more known now and now that its more known there's no chance I'd leave them in the vehicle. If I have to go into a store they just have to come in,

True Phil, I was allowed to wait in the car too sometimes. I would not do it today as I would fear abductions. I just don't get how you forget a baby in a car? How does a parent "think " he dropped him off at daycare.

How does a parent "think " he dropped him off at daycare. The world is sadly a less safe place than it was in those days. It might not be much less safe as much as we are more aware of the things that happen. They always happened, but with 24 hour news cable and internet we have become aware and I think we hopefully have learned that it was never a good idea to leave kids in the car. My sons are 9 and 7 and they aren't let out of our sight too often when we go places.

I think both. We are more aware but media also leads to 'copycat' crime. I also think there's less honor among thieves today.
But we can all start by making sure we don't subject kids to unneeded danger.

I can not believe how lax some parents are. How they just figure their kid will make it home. Theres a dance at school and nobody picks them up or theyre expected to walk home. Not a block or two but a mile or two. Dances that end after 11 at night and kids that are not more than 14 or 15 years old.
Maybe if they drive themselves or are old enough to even if they didnt happen to own a car I could see them being on their own but not before then and not if its two to three miles from school to home and at that hour.
Leaving children in a car is a no no. Its even been done in Chattanooga that if police see a child in a car they will wait for the parent to come out and summons them to family court. The result is the minimum of a fine and if family court sees that there is potential endangerment they investigate the homelife and family overall. They could potentially remove the children from the home if its bad enough but an investigation is imminent.

That has been a complain of mine as long as I have had kids. since then I've been more aware of how lax parents sometimes are. Or they fall asleep and forget to pick up the kids. The kid just goes wherever they want and the parent has no idea.

Nowadays I just don't think it's safe for a child to be left in a car, even if the parent is just running into the store to get one item. I also think it's dangerous to leave your pets in a hot car. I remember a couple years back somebody at our local Walmart left a puppy in a car with all the windows closed in the middle of July. The puppy was fine, but the owner was charged with animal cruelty. To think that somebody would do that to an animal, or a baby, just makes me sick.

Its never been a good idea but this day and age its worse. The world seems more cruel. Perhaps it always was but we as a society may have been more naïve 30 odd years ago. When I was a kid, not an infant but a kid depending on how long they were going to be and where we were sometimes I was left in the car. I think today that wouldn't happen. Problems were possible then too but it seems today that is a chance we would never take.
I think Jason was 14 when I finally gave him a choice if he wanted to stay or come in. The others are not that old yet so they don't get that choice. pets the same thing they can be abducted or over heated just as children can.
