The Westboro Church is a group of radicals. They happen to be pro life, and the happen to support and oppose some of the things the republican and conservative side of the country believes. However they do not speak for traditional Christianity or conservatives at all.
They sometimes say or imply that someone with cancer got infected as a punishment for past wrong doing.
That kind of action gives bad images to true conservative values.
What makes matters worse, is liberal media has used that to convince those who are undecided of issues that the Westboro church is representative of Christian or traditional values, suggesting that since they are a church the sayings of that congregation and its elders is the belief of Christianity and the republican voters over all.
The Westboro Church is damaging to the reputations of all christen churches and the press is using them as a tool to damage the reputations of Christianity and conservative people in the image of those who don't follow news or practice any faith. The press is using the Westboro Church; doings to cause those who have neutral views to fear Christianity.

That IS what they want you to believe.
All of the prgainzations like planned parenthood, feminist groups, ( I dont mean equal rights groups) I mean people like Patricia Ireland and others like her. Same with people like paranoid reverse racists like Morgan Freeman. Im insulted he is from Tennessee. lol Just comic relief there.
But those are the people trying to make like Phil said the Westboro Baptist Church seem like the standard bearer for christian beliefs. And the Westboro community hurts everyone by saying things that are racial or suggest racial superiority or inferiority. And the mainstream media picks it up and runs with it.
You can also take a better look at Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton here too. I don't agree with their views in politics but I at least respect that both men served as ministers and would not allow their respective congregations to be soured on christian values on account of the Westboro Baptist church.
Al Sharpton who supports so many of the liberal beliefs and has made several racial remarks controversial remarks to Jewish people, and even other Christians. And then he participated in a televised debate with an atheist about his belief in God and Christ. And lets remember liberal left wing politically Al Sharpton is an ordained Baptist minister.
Somehow that gets ignored unless it just cant be. Jesse Jackson is also a Baptist minister and remains a liberal democrat.

I know how the mainline media can be. I've fought with them all my years of playing ball. I never dealt with national trouble like this though.
But Obviously I am of Christian and traditional values also. I have heard similar things that you have too. People saying that churches are racial and anti other religions because of the things said by the Westboro Baptist Church.
I'd like to see some religious right organizations take a strong stance against the Westboro Church. Pat Robertson has made some noise saying that they don't represent true bible based religious but more like Robertson should do the same.

That's how the left wants to attempt to make the undecided take that perception of the right as hateful extremists.

Its how menipulitve people act. They find extremests and want you to believe that's how the other half thinks. They do the same thing with a thief they want to show you he is from the worst neighborhoods so you feel sorry for him and try to emphasize with how he acts and somehow understand that he is a no good bum.

There leader just passed away. He was a real bigot. His "God Hates Fags" stuff was everywhere. Do I hate him for his views? Nope. Do I hate him for spreading his abuse? Nope. I will not use hate to kill peoples spirit like he did. What I will do is pray for his tortured soul.

You have the right attitude beangirl.
I think the guy had terrible views and taught terrible views, but the media of today does seem to wish to suggest that thinking is symbolic of Christian belief and that is clearly not the case.

That's just the point. An extreme outfit, in this case, The Westboro Church, says terrible things and then the left leaning press has raw gasoline for their fire on those who believe in traditional ways.

Just the idea. They want others to think that's how bible based people feel.
