By now I assume we all heard about Paul Walker. He was killed at age 40 in a bad accident. The fast and the Furious was his signature movie, and ironically he got killed in a high speed crash.

It seems as if those who fantasize a lifestyle sometimes attempt to live it. Obviously not everyone as some arts can't be attempted in reality. But driving race cars or racing on the road is something that is possible to attempt.
People sailing around the world in a sailboat because of a book or movie. Sports movies sometimes bring out a higher number for tryouts in team situations.
I can imagine gaining that guy's stature and more or less believing he's invincible at least on a subconscious level.

Ironic? James Dean had just filmed a commercial for the highway patrol about the dangers in speeding. He was on his way to a race near San Francisco when he crashed. He was also driving a Porsche Carrera.

That does seem that movies and video gamesltend to bring out the wild part of people. Thats not to say games and movies need to stop because of this. I remember when I was a kid Dungeons and Dragons received attention for badly influencing kids.

Its long been felt that ares effect our attitudes and thoughts. Dungeons and Dragons was popular when I was a teen, and some people felt it influenced peoples thoughts. Led Zeplin song 'Stairway to Heaven' wad satanic. The band KISS was accused of KISS being an acronym for 'Knights In Satan's Service.' Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons strongly denied that, but not evertone believed them. Peter, Paul, and. Mary with 'Puff The Magic Dragon,' Peter has often denied that the song was about smoking pot. But again, others are not sure he is truthful.
No doubt some of these things do happen. Vicarious things do happen. Movies, pro wrestlibg and action games can motivate confidence out of the fool hearty.

Well said, Phil. It does seem as if culturally we get into something and want to live it. It happened to me and it was a career for years. I watched a World Series as a small kid and all I ever wanted to do was play baseball.

It is incredible how posthumously things are accelerated. No pun intended here. Just that the fast and furiopus games and movies are being sold at even a more quick pace since the death of Paul Walker. The same thing happened when Elvis Presley died, I was a little kid but I remember Record Theater reporting new heights for orders and selling out of Elvis albums. The same was was talked about when John Lennon was shot. Beatles records sold out instantly.
These things happen a lot. John Belushi died when I was about 10. Blues brothers memorabilia went like hot cakes. And blues brothers costumes were the thing that Halloween.
Whenever someone who was respected dies especially an untimely death that happens. My wife went out and bought a few Whitney Houston CDs after Whitney passed away. My wife was a Whitney fan already but her unexpected death triggered buying of several CDs.

That does happen. When players die their cards soar in value. That is if the player was a high name guy in the fist place. Thurman Munson cards are valuable but he was still in his prime when he got killed. Roberto Clemente cards are valuable and even players who were already retired at the time of their death like Tug McGraw there's a value added to a card once the player has died as long as they were a mainstay player. If they were an allstar or a hall of fame player or a world series winner add to that.
