Syria, what do you think?
I have mixed feelings. If the people are being gassed by the government that government needs to go. But the said enemy of the government is lined with al quida.
What to do is a good question I can see both sides of this.

I want to say don't do it.
We have two wars not quite finished, and the economy of the country will struggle much worse if there's another war embarked upon. Obviously we don't want to see a government torturing the people, but the enemy of that Syrian government is nobody to align with.
This is a different situation from Iraq since Iraq and Saddam were established enemies who had violated terms of the Desert Storm surrender. A war my own brother was a part of in 1991. The terms of the surrender were violated. And that fact was not a pressed issue until the September 11, 2001 event that meant a war on terror meaning a terrorist leader and Saddam Hussein was such became a target. He was a proven enemy and proven terrorist.
This is partially different and strikes on Syria would stand to bring anger among some of the allies of this country and only put a different enemy in charge of Syria in the end.

I think the United States is spread too think already for war. Not for military policing but to invade when we still have troops in Iraq and Afghanistan this is one thing too many. And like mentioned already this is not a government who has attacked outside the country before. That means an invasion could also anger the Chinas and the Rissias more than the Iraq situation because there had been previous reasons of things that happened to go into Iraq. Syria not really.

So the former President of Iran had said it was time to 'take out' Israel and the Jewish population altogether. In August Iran inaugurated a new President. This President makes a public appearance today and says that he would like to wish Israel, Jews over the world and especially Jewish Iranians a happy and prosperous Rosh Hashana. *Jewish New Year*
I hope that can be an establishment of peace of an offering if that, or at the very least a proposal of peaceful coexistence. I hope that's not an early PR move that leads to further trouble. Or does he see his neighbor Iraq crushed by US military and that possibility about to befall Syria, that perhaps an alignment or at least a truce with Israel might make him a lesser target. I can't help but wonder.

I think more that. More that he figures if he establishes he is not an enemy of Israel he might be off the hook. Who knows if he's sincere. He could prove it over time.

The last thing we need is to start a war on a 3rd front when we have 2 fronts in Iraq and Afghanistan that are not yet finished.
John Kerry who ran against Bush for President in 2004 said that Bush and company should have gotten UN approval to enter Iraq, is not secretary of state for Obama and he was reluctant to say that congress should even be consulted.
Now the solution may end up being that Russia is willing to be the 'police' here in monitoring this WMD situation.
I am glad it may and will likely prevent further war but having grown up when I did and the 'Soviet Union' being hard to trust I can't help but wonder if that's not the mouse guarding the cheese.
