i don't know what's going on with kmart or why they have been cutting so many hours but a few nights ago I caught two shoplifters for the first time since I worked there. two teenage girls went in the fitting room with a lot of clothes. since the store was dead that night I checked the rooms after they left and found a handful of clothing upc's under the bench. I told sharon and she told the manager. because there was no security they couldn't do anything about it so they watched them on the security cameras and got the descriptions in case they do it again. there should be security in the store from open to close. it's people who steal who ruin it for employees. we get our hours cut to make up for what they steal. If we had security those girls would of been caught. they stole somewhere over $100.00 of clothes. we go out of our way to prevent loss but when it comes down to actually do something about it there is no coverage for that area also. they shouldn't walk off with free stuff.

I'm glad you saw something! Hopefully they're caught soon. I know some small shops will post pictures on a thief wall of shame so others know who they are.

I cant' stand thieves. That's what in directly makes prices higher. Employee theft is among the biggest killers of small businesses too. Embezzling. Thunderbord and the family business has dealt with some employee theft. Shop lifting is equally bad though. I can't believe Kmart wouldn't have surveillance or does it?

I recently read a story where a gas station attendant got pissed at a guy who stole gasoline and sped away. His boss didn't want to, but he took the initiative to post the fuzzy pictures of the guy's truck. A few days later the guy's own mother turned him in.
I agree with dragonlady. Their picture should be plastered up on a wall of shame somewhere. Even if they're never caught, they can be banned from the store and shamed for a long time in the court of public opinion at least.

I agree wholeheartedly. A lot of times the court of public opinion is more brutal than the court of law. I am all for paying the piper if you intentionally do something scummy like steal from stores and other people. That's just scum job #1. Good for that guy's mother for turning him in too. It goes to show that just because someone is a low life bum doesn't mean that's because of their upbringing. Sometimes a person just turns out wrong and its not for lack of effort on the parental part.
*I am not talking about some neighbors who have no problem with their teenagers drinking beer or their girlfriends spending the night* in those cases I do blame the parents.

There's been kids made to stand out with signs saying they stole from such and such. I haven't seen this personally, but I've heard of it. If they're embarrassed, chances are they'll learn their lesson, rather than spend time in jail or pay money back, that doesn't always work. Once that's over, it's over.
Shame on people who let their kids drink and let girlfriends spend the night, that's just giving up.

kmart has the cameras they got it on the teenagers. it's good they know who the girls are but it ticks me off to there was no security to get them that day. the police would of come for them and they would of learned a lesson in shoplifting. now their laughing because they got away with it. I don't know if these girls are going to come back but people who steal ruin it for everyone. one of the worst things that happened was when a employee ended up getting hurt in the store and they have to cut hours because of that to pay for it. this was on mothers day when we had no help in the store. the fitting room was slammed with returns the store was a mess and to top it off the person who was on the floor with me had to go supervise checkouts 8-10pm. the next day we had a visit from the big guys and they saw the store looking like crap and the managers let us take the blame. I don't know if that was a corportate decision but it was a bunch of crap on their ends. they don't seem to understand that by cutting hours they are running this store into the ground. when I first started we had the k-cafe there were a lot of shoppers but lately it has all gone downhill.

Shame on people who let their kids drink and let girlfriends spend the night, that's just giving up. Exactly. That's week parenting and when that's allowed at those ages responsibility will never be learned by the kid. Jason has found other friends but he knew those guys at school and was kind of making friends with them. I would not let him go there after I learned for sure and not by hear say that these kids are allowed to drink beer when they were 13 and 14. I told Jason who was also 13 at the time that you are not to go over there if I find you disobeyed me there will be punishments *usually depriving of a privileged* and those guys can come here as long as and only as long as they don't do things or encourage things that I would disapprove of. Since then they all have gone into high school and found other circles so I'm relieved. But those guys do often have their girlfriends spend the night. I'm sure their parents would say that the girls spend the night but they aren't having sex with their sons. I would reply 'oh really?' But that whole thing is just wrong. Those guys are out of the house at all hours of the night walking down town and everything. And to tie it to the thread 1 if not both of those kids has been accused of shoplifting at the tops in town and a video game store too.

yikes it sounds like those kids are heading down a bad path in life. the parents sound like they want to be a friend instead of a parent. you have to teach them right from wrong or they will never learn. what's going to happen when one of those girls faces a unplanned teenage pregnancy? allowing 13-14 year olds to drink is against the law and you can go to jail for that. it could also lead to a drinking problem for those young kids. I wonder how the parents would feel if something happened to their kids or somebody elses kid because they allowed this to happen. at some point you have to stop being a friend and start being a parent.

i missed some exciting stuff that went down at work. some idiot parents decided to shoplift while their daughter was there. pat told me she looked really young. the father had a backpack and they found $800.00 worth of merchandise. security took the guy down and his pants were past his butt. his little girl was crying and I think pat said the mother was also there. it's just sad that they did that because that little girl is going to lose her parents. they were probaly no good to begin with to do something like this.

A little girl probably doesn't know any more about the situation than the fear that her father was being arrested and a what happens now fear of the unknown. Or that some harm can come to him but not knowing the child's age I doubt she really knows the gravity of it all.

Thats the worst. Among the worst, anyway. To involve kids. And breaking laws/STEaling or anything with your kids present is involving them. Thats shameless disrespect for parental obligations besides being a lowlife thief.

these parents don't deserve to have kids when they use them as pawns or hurt them. I have been hearing many stories where people use their kids to shoplift or just leave them behind and run when they get caught. to me that just seems selfish where the parents put themselves first and the kids last.

It took me a while to read thorough this, and I agree adults should not hide behind kids with one exception. lol.
We all remember the story about my nephew Jason, or Jason O'Lewa to our friends here, and myself going through the trails at my dads place and getting Phil's at that time new truck stuck in the mud.
I was fully willing to let Phil think Jason was driving it and slid it off the trail and got it stuck in the deep ruts. Sometimes hiding behind a at that time 12 year old was for self preservation.
Of course I am kidding I would never actually do that.
On serious pace now, there's nothing right about that. The kid was probably bewildered and scared who wouldn't be? And the girl was probably misplaced in her fear probably believing that her father was bring bullied by authorities instead of the correct situation she was probably too young to place it that way.
If Phil was ever locked up the kids would come live with Uncle Alan. I would no longer have to cut grass, paint, clean or cook meals.
My wife and I have no children yet but we intend to have at least 2.
