There's tornado trouble in Oklahoma from what I'm hearing the worst since 1999. I don't think any of our active forum members are from that area, but there's about 25 deaths and about 30 missing and unaccounted for as of yet.
So I am sure we as a lewasite community would like to keep our thoughts and prayers focused on those in Oklahoma in the eye of the storms.
I know that tornado seasons are annual but some years are more extreme than others just like snowstorms in the Northeast some years are more troublesome than others. Flooding areas. In Central PA they have what is known as the 36 year flood. 1900, 1936 and 1972 were very devastating floods. while that area floods somewhat every year with the Susquehanna river. That area between Williamsport and south of Harrisburg especially gets the aftermath of hurricanes. In 2008 the 36 year flood came but did not compare to 1900, 1936 or 1972, *72 was the worst of the 3* *I was born in 71 so I din't remember it exactly but I do remember there was still much rebuilding for years after. My dad frequently discussed the 72 flood and he was involved in the projects.
There's pictures he took at the time. I could post them.
I also understand that in New Orleans Hurricane Katrina that happened in 2005, we had some Lewasite members who were in that area. Jimbozo was 1 of them, he discussed it at the time how he and his local community were affected. And again hurricanes are common in that area of the golf coast but that was the worst since Camile in 1969. So it took 35 years for another hurricane of that magnitude to hit.
Weather patterns can be very interesting.
In October of 2006 we experienced an early storm snow and ice that brought limbs power-lines down and damaged roads and tracks. That's not as deviating as a flood or a tornado or an earthquake, but It made for a lot of clean up and repair just the same.
I remember San Francisco Giants and Oakland Athletics were playing in the world series in 1989 and an earthquake happened. The worst in the bay area since 1906. That shut the series down for a time as both teams being Oakland and San Francisco are only about a half hour apart and on opposite sides of San Francisco bay both places were affected.
