With a new jury for the death penalty the good thing is they won't have to sit through 18 days of testimony from Ms. Killer. It means they won't "bond" with her and want to spare her life. Even if it is life she will suffer. Prison is not jail where she has been for 5 years. It is a whole nasty world in itself and she will be "prey" not the predator that she is now. This ain't the Hilton!

That might be worse for her to spend life in prison. Sometimes Classic and I differ on that.

life in prison is suffering everyday getting into fights not wanting to live. that might even be better for her. she would be getting a taste of her own medicine. it's a hard debate because many would like to see her get death but this poor guy suffered a lot at the time of his killing. so maybe it would be better if she gets life in prison stuck in her nightmare with no way out.

I would vote for death. Travis suffering was intense. She would languish on death row for at least 10 years. She would be confined to a cell 10 X 7 feet. She would have no contact with other inmates and only allowed to leave her cell once a day for exercise. No contact visits and only family can see her once a week. She would have lots of time to think of that needle that will put her to sleep for ever. She got it easier than poor Travis.

Somehow the courts are more reluctant to give women the death penalty than men. It shouldnt matter sometimes women (myself included sometimes) seek equal rights but try to avoid equal responsibility.
And the law tends to think along those lines too.

Christa Gail Pike was the youngest woman sentenced to death at the age of 19.She brutality slaughtered Colleen Slemmer with rocks and a box cutter in Knoxville, all over jealousy of her man.

Very good post Kimm. Kind of like My wife thinks we need new shutters I think what we have is fine, she gets to pick them out and I get to buy them and put them up. That sounds equal so far. ------------------
Just a little humor there. Seriously that is an excellent post by both Kimm and Beangirl The courts do tend to be harder on men for like crimes.
And Beangirl you are onto something also. I think with men just getting even is enough *not just in killing situations* women tend to be more angry if they're going to go to those lengths and therefore are more brutal.
In a case I knew the people personally I was a child at the time but old enough to be aware of the people. Well 1 night the wife snapped and while the husband was asleep she dropped a brick on his head and then stabbed him over 60 times.
I was 9 when that happened it was the summer of 1980. That was talked about periodically in our house and that very thing was discussed. About women being more angry and thinking that was a way to make sure the job was done. Had the shoe been on the other foot most likely the man would have stabbed her once. Not that there's any good way to kill someone.

Wow Phil. You actually knew people who were murdered? I never knew anyone personally who was murdered. Well I kind of knew a kid Classicblast played baseball with who ended up getting shot over a street gang thing but not like a neighbor of mine or anything.

In 2011 when I owned my boarding kennel for cats. I had a customer Mrs. Souther who boarded her cat Snowball with me occasionally .She was and elderly lady around late seventies and apparently wealthy. One day I read about this elderly couple living in the heights who were murdered . It was her and her husband. They owned a supply business and the ex partner wanted them to sell it to him. They refused so he hired someone to break into there house and kill them, The man beat them to death in there beds with a tire iron.It was gruesome . For weeks I had nightmares. That was my first time actually knowing a murdered victim The Ex Partner was convicted and is on death row.

Oh my word Beangirl. An elderly couple murdered for not selling to a partner. That partner should swing quickly but he will probably be on death row for years. Kimm, yes. This couple in their 30s had a boy about 3 at that time. They lived a little ways from us and I didn't know them super well but I knew them a little bit. And that happened 1 night. I don't know if there was alcohol involved or if the woman just went nuts but she dropped a brick on the guy while he was sleeping then stabbed him with a knife in each hand over 60 times. The kid was taken to his grandparents house who lived in the vicinity too. The woman spent a little time in an insane ward and she managed to kill herself about 2 years later. She jumped into a river and drowned herself. The kid was raised by grandparents. He's still in the area as far as I know he turned out ok. I don't know him well, he's just enough younger than me and enough older than my brother and sister that none of us went to school with him. But that's what happened to answer the question.

Yes, but it costs money to keep them alive too. Just having her shot would get it over with, and let anyone watch who wants to.

I go back and forth on what I think is more punishing life in prison or death. I think prison is a time to rehabilitate people and give them time to not only think about what they have done but exemplify to themselves and others that this is what happens if you do the crime.
But how can we repay this debt? I think execution is appropriate here.
