I am sure most everybody has heard by now Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher killed his girlfriend and himself Saturday.
His girlfriend and mother of their child got home from a rap concert around 1am and a 4 or 5 hour argument ensued. Belcher killed her. Then he goes to Arrowhead stadium to thank the coaching staff and managerial staff of the Chiefs football team before killing himself in a parking lot of Arrowhead stadium.
Then Bob Costas comes on tv and makes this a gun issue.
Ok, the murder suicide weapon was a gun, but then again there have been plenty of ofter instances of murder suicide that had no gun involved at all.
So you then outlaw rap concerts? Or put a curfew on how late you can stay out if your baby and significant other are waiting for you at home?
Where would we take it from there?
No doubt this is a terrible thing. Stemmed largely from paranoia since It was probably Belcher thinking that the girl was cheating on him and it may have turned out she was since he ended up killing her.
Terribly tragic as it is, is this really a gun issue?
The worst thing about this is a baby is now been made an orphan. If there's a silver lining Jovan Belcher is not the surviving parent who can someday claim that he has reached aptitude enough to raise them and the judge agrees and the child is put in his hands. If there is any saving grace here that, at least, will not happen.
