I grew up watching the Jeffersons, Sunday nights on CBS. And reruns of course.
Later Helmsley played the deacon in 'Amen'.
He was the same type of character.
Helmsley was 74 upon his death the other day. He was quite a bit younger than what George Jefferson was supposed to be. About 10 years younger. And Isabelle Sanford *Louise Jefferson* was about 20 years older than Sherman Helmsley and of course they were supposed to be husband and wife and therefore close in age.
It worked though. In recent years before Isabelle Sanford died, they reunited as George and Louise Jefferson to do commercials for Denny's Restaurants.
