The federal government namely Barack Obama. Barack Hussein Obama, is placing on Catholic hospitals that it be mandatory to perform abortions.
The Cardinal of New York had a Oval office meeting with Obama a while back and the President assured him pressure would not be placed on Catholic hospitals to differ from their sacred beliefs of life.
Now legislation is on the way that would make it so jobs can be lost if medical staff members refuse to perform an abortion.
The secular members of society are always saying churches must keep out of state matters......Well, what about the reverse. Doesn't separation of Church and state also keep the government out of your church?
Catholic health care has provided care for all people Catholic or not for centuries. And these hospitals are based on the church's principles like Catholic schools are. However you do not have to be Catholic to go to a Catholic school. Nor do you have to be to wrok in a Catholic hospital.
However you do have to conform to the guidelines as you would in any private institution.
The government is attempting to intervene and the stalemate could lead to closing of Catholic hospitals because performing abortions is foremost against principle.
Closure of the hospitals would also mean disasters in medical care. That might be part of Obama's long range plan to make us all more or less a welfare nation. That seems to be what he leans toward is making the people dependent on the government.

I know what Phil is referring to, and I know the government wants to force the hospitals' staffs into doing certain things but can the government regulate you fire hospital staff if they don't?

I wanted to let the issue stew and play out for a while before I put in another one of my famous posts. This mandate that Phil is talking about is part of the Obamacare health care reform law, the unconstitutional legislation essentially forcing people to buy insurance or face penalties or fines. Not only is that mandate unconstitutional (the president or lawmakers cannot force Americans to purchase a product or service under threat of penalty), it is ridiculously expensive and probably doubles the size of our already huge government. Liberals love stuff like this because they are micro-management and controlling types of people who love to control others. It's the reason why they lean toward socialism, communism, and Marxism in general because all of these espouse those controls that they love so much. A nanny state where the government tells you what to do, how to eat, and what to think is essentially the new Nazism and liberals are entirely wrapped up in it.
America was not founded upon a powerful government telling us what to do and how to think. America was founded on freedom, where we are able to choose our own directions and reap the benefits or consequences that resulted from our choices. America simply was not founded on fascism; it was founded on freedom. And liberals are working daily to take it away.
That being said, I'll address the Catholic mandate. It has been very clear that Obama, from the very beginning of his presidency, has been waging an open and direct war against Catholicism and it's related sub-groups. What I mean is that now, every single day, I see a news story about some atheist being offended by some Catholic religious symbol or idol and seeking help from the Freedom From Religion Foundation, a radical leftist group seeking to have religion removed completely from American society under the guise of simply removing it from public buildings or other such places. They use the Constitutional separation of church and state as their primary weapon, and since leftist judges reinterpret this law as freedom from religion (and not freedom to PRACTICE religion, with the federal government not being allowed to establish a state or national religion), they side with the atheists and the idol or offending symbol is then forcibly removed.
What I'm trying to say is that atheist groups are waging an open war against Catholics, and they have the full backing of the Obama Administration. And it's definitely against Catholics because this group has never once struck at an Islamic symbol or structure. They wouldn't dare. And it's not hard to imagine why.
This mandate from Obama was a planned strategy. It is my belief that he and his administration did it on purpose, along with the backtracking he did on Friday. Here's why... Obama has no constitutional authority whatsoever to force a business or religious group to provide any product or service under penalty. Can't do it. So he attacked the Church because he saw it as an easy target. It's a favorite target for liberals because it stands opposed to a leftist ideology in most of its dogma, like same-sex marriage and abortion. Obama knew he would be pissing off the Church and it's membership, so when the necessary backlash occurred against his mandate (forcing Church related charities, hospitals, businesses, etc to provide free contraceptions and abortion-inducing drugs) people realized he was infringing on religious liberty and crapping all over the Constitution.
So there was the anticipated backlash. Obama backtracked on the mandate, saying that Church related associations and businesses would no longer have to provide the free contraceptives and abortion drugs. Now, the responsibility shifts over to the insurance companies.
A victory right? Wrong.
Obama now managed to make himself look good to the Church clergy by looking like a superhero and "fixing" the problem. In truth, it hasn't been fixed because he's applying it to the insurance companies. Obama still doesn't have that kind of power under the constitution. Therefore, he's still crapping on it! He's still getting what he wants while making himself look good in the process.
Fortunately some clergy haven't been fooled and are calling for it to be stricken entirely. That would be a victory. However, seeing Obamacare stricken entirely in and of itself would be the bigger victory, since the whole thing is unconstitutional.
Overall, this was nothing more than a stunt and a scheme to portray the religious right as anti-woman. I can only hope enough people see that. By doing that, Obama hopes to shift more and more votes over in his direction so he can get reelected. He knew what he was doing, and there hasn't been any backtracking. Obama is trampling on the Constitution and slowly taking our freedom away from us.
The biggest thing to remember is that NOBODY is refused contraceptions should they sire them. And people on the right are not opposed to people being able to use them. Obama is trying to say otherwise, and it simply isn't true. Which is why I see this as a calculated scheme.
It still disappoints me that people don't see it and/or fail to recognize this president for what he is. Obama is slowly becoming a dictator wielding unprecedented power as the head of a powerful federal government through his usage of executive orders with mandates.
Imagine the federal government being able to tell you how many children you're allowed to have, in the name of environmentalism and population control. Could never happen right? Wrong. It could be mandated under Obamacare if it's allowed to stand and take full effect. The law has language in it that would permit such regulations.
And the Democrats didn't even read it.
I'll leave you with that.

I wish I had the time to give Jersey's post the attention it deserves. I will do that but I might have to do it in bites.
1st off I agree very strongly with what has been said above. Obama and company are very anti-Catholic. In fact, when Obama took office he was invited to speak at Notre Dame. A Catholic college.
Well, Obama insisted that the statues be covered if he is to come to the school. Are you kidding me? What's more disgusting is they agreed to it and did it!
If you're rushed to St. Joseph's hospital and you need immediate care, they don't ask if you're Catholic and insist you recite the Apostle's creed before you receive treatment. You get care whatever your religious beliefs might be.
And its almost fully Catholic funding that keeps those hospitals going. There's several in every city. Yes of course medical companies pay for some of the care like would be the case in any hospital but I don't think everybody realizes how much trouble we would be in medically if there weren't so many Catholic hospitals.

That's a good point that any time a civic organization does something with religious connotation they scream bloody murder and yet the government wants to have the right to force religious based hospitals to perform bloody murder.
