Don Cornelius was found dead this morning from an apparent self inflicted gun shot wound.
Cornelius was the founder or among the founders of the program Soultrain. I watched it a lot growing up I preferred Soultrain to Dance Fever or other music shows at the time.
I am surprised that a 75 year old man would end up shooting himself, I can't be sure of the details but 1 would think by that age life's battles are either won or lost by then. I remember he was arrested about 3 years ago for spousal abuse he denied guilt. But a restraining order was put on him anyway.
Now this.
I am not a psychologist by any means, and I don't ever think suicide is the answer, but I can understand it more if life has become depressing or stressful.
When you get to be 75, your life is kind of lived and you should be looking back at what you have done and not be under extra pressure. Just my outlook.
Right now I am 40, I have 1 child in high school, 1 in grade 3 and 1 that will start Kindergarten in the fall.
Should my job or my marriage have major struggles stress could befall me. Perhaps to the point where I think about ending my life. But I highly doubt I would no matter what happened. But at age 40 there's more likely that things can be brought into your life to bring upon that degree of stress.
When you're 75 most likely your kids are grown, so how to get them to adulthood is done. You have a home either bought or rented but you probably don't need to move anytime soon. You've completed your job there's pensions and Social Security by then.
Of course we are talking about a celebrity who was very successful so money is probably not a problem. That's not to say even a successful celebrity can't spread himself too thin. I still think it's peculiar that a man his age would kill himself.
