Washington Nationals catcher Wilson Ramos was abducted from his parents home in Venezuela at gun point and is being held for ransom. It shocks me that in this day and age that can still happen.
I hope the kidnappers are caught and Ramos is returned unharmed. But you'd think home would be the 1 place you can consider yourself safe but I guess not.

There's no news as of yet. The kidnappers have reportedly not contacted the Ramos family. Or at least the family has not made the matter public as of yet.
This kind of hits home. I am surprised by this story but not as surprised as you are. I say this because I happened to interact with a lot of teammates from South American countries and they can't believe how relaxed things are in this country.
When they're new to this country they can't believe when I come to practice with the Mustang and leave the top down. Or people leaving items in the car. They expect that you woudl place all items in the trunk never leaving anything in the back seat or on the floor you're asking for trouble.
Obviously that can happen here too and its probably not wise to tempt fate by leaving things where they can be seen but most places in the USA you can get away with it. That was not a recommendation, however.
The South Americans also can't believe that I don't always lock my doors when I drive away. They do without fail. Most cars today lock automatically when you put them in drive but my Mustang is a 5 speed so that doesn't do that.
They all say that encountering road robbers is a common problem in their home countries. Not as much in major cities but in rural places its very common. And all of them say that.
So although I was surprised by this terrible news I guess I had some understanding that its far less safe in South America.

This is the communist/socialist mentality. Anyone that becomes individually successful, motivated, or does something that sets them apart from the masses, deserves punishment.
Hopefully he makes it home alive. If he does, and if he's smart, he should never go back there again and should arrange to have his family brought here instead.

I would agree with Jersey from a practical point of view but I still see home as home. I mean if I had to go to another state for financial gain for myself and my family but I come to Bradford to visit my mother then I get a gun point abduction I can't fathom that at all. I would be somewhat homesick to never ever come to Bradford again. Granted its apples and oranges to compare it to Venezuela, and after an experience like that home would be rather ruined as you knew it.

i don't realy understand this case theyre saying that theres been no contact with the Ramos family yet and they haven't heard anything.
so I wonder why? Theres only 2 realiztic reasons to abduct him, 1 for the money 2 for revenge
if its for the money they have to have a way to exchange the money for their hostage if its for revenge then maybe they just kill him and they wouldnt give him back at anytime for any price.
It woudl take a pretty heavy issue for a man who is 24 to have angered underworld enough to want to kill him but you never know for sure what somoene is into or how they are coneckted
I would be scared that if they don't find him or receive contact in a few days its for vengeance and they will just kill him and hed never be found from there
i pray that doesn't happen.

So glad to hear that Wilson is safe, and the kidnappers have been arrested. It's always scary to hear stories of people being abducted/ kidnapped from their own home.

That is good news that they got him back unharmed its a miracle since there is so much trouble in South America. From what I am hearing the drug and organized crime in South America has reached heights nearly like that of the gangsters of the 1920s. That's what I hear from the people I know from South America.
