Here goes the book and the movie in this thread.
I do not think he exactly called Obama Hitler, and even if he had, what happened to free speech?
I understand Hank Williams portrays himself as a belligerent hillbilly. I know he is to a degree and embellishes it a bit for his image. But I don't see that as something to fire him over but ESPN and Monday night football felt otherwise. I'd be interested in other people's views. Post the interview in this thread if you want and that lets us compare what we get out of it.

"Belligerent Hillbilly" is a good term to express Hank Jr. However I am also a fan of Bocephus and not of Obama. I also am a retired professional sports player and I realize the politics there. Anything that even suggests racial or genocide is taboo in the world of sports. Obviously I was only a minor leaguer but I was concerned during the banter here that the players union could give me some trouble for banter with the kids here a few years ago.
Its all different now as I am no longer a player I have told my name and some other things since it is not longer a possible issue.
I also remember when Dusty Baker was managing the Cubs he said that white players from the northern United States tend to get tired more easily in the heat than Black players from the Dominican Republics and Mexican players.
He got in a lot of trouble for saying that forced to do community work and fined and make public apologies. I am a white guy from the Northern USA. I feel I can keep up with anyone in durability but Baker had a right to feel that way. He has been in the business for 40 years and he knows baseball that's what he has observed in his time.
Sometimes in sports its almost as if you're not entitled to your opinion or at least not to freedom of speech. It sucks but its very real in sports.

He was drawing a parallel, and the politically correct collective minds of liberals nationwide exploded all at the same time. Just goes to show what can happen to someone if they use the words "Obama" and "Hitler" in the same sentence, no matter what the actual context of it may have been.

That's exactly what I get out of this. This is really over the top that they let him go over it. I don't think Hank will fight it but I'll bet if a liberal singer said something similar about Bush and got let go from an independent circuit out cry would be so loud they'd end up reinstating the singer. I doubt Hank will fight it though.

I happened to hear his rebuttal song. I don't think he will fight it. In fact the rebuttal song kind of affirms that he won't be fighting it.

The other thing is he has always been the center of controversy and he likes that.
He had the opportunity to say "I didn't exactly say Obama was Hitler," and he passed on that opportunity and allowed himself to be quoted out of context and gain or reply to all this dispute.
So he allowed some of this out of proportion dispute to happen.

He is a belligerent hillbilly and he likes that image so I guess he could have done more to sway against the meaning of that but he didn't. He does so in his new song called 'keel the change.'

Ok Ok Ok OK Ok........come on in and see Doctor Phil here.
Here we go again. Hank Williams did not actually call Obama Hitler, but rather said 'Obama golfing with John Boehner is as unlikely as Hittler golfing with Netanyahu.'
He gets fired from Monday Night Football as the theme song singer after about a 25 year run.
October 17, Susan Surandon calls Pope Benedict a Nazi.
Catholic and Jewish organizations alike have called her out on this. So have some other religious organizations who are not particularly in agreement with the Catholic Church or the Pope but are bothered to see him disrespected this way.
Susan has made no effort to apologize or explain herself at all. At least Hank Jr apologized to whoever may have taken his comment in that context. Then in a song he expresses the media twisting the context. Susan has not done any of this from what I gather.
If its a misunderstanding she needs to clarify. If not, I have to say if Hank Williams Jr deserved to lose his spot on Monday Night Football Susan could deserve to have her Oscar award revoked.
I know this touches a few different things. Anti-religious are probably delighted. I am Catholic and it does mean a lot to me. That's not to say that everybody shares my views, but the Pope has not acted Nazi-like in anyway.
He hasn't dictated restrictions among Catholics or requirements that had previously not been in place, he hasn't made any major changes to the Catholic Church since becoming pope upon the death of John Paul II in 2005.
Susan has been involved in UNICEF, and programs to feed the hungry, so she has done some charity work for a lot of years. Every presidential election she supports Ralph Nader who will probably run again next year. He's been running for President since the Lincoln administration. Him and Al Sharpten are perennial candidates.
That's my rant for today.

Phil's post, in short, identifies a little something called the "Liberal Double Standard". A way of political life in which any conservative gaffes or slightly outlandish quotes are snapped up by bloggers and the majority of the media, scrutinized, often misinterpreted or taken out of context, and those who said the remarks are (pardon the pun) literally whipped and hung on the cross. Accusations can typically range from the following: "Homophobe"! "Racist"! "Nazi"! (an ideology that liberals should take a good hard look at while simultaneously looking at themselves), and any other manner of horrific accusations. The victim is then usually punished in the worst manner they can manage. See the Hank story above for your example.
As for other liberals saying similar things or even things that are blatant and clear (i.e. Sarandon), you usually hear the equivalent of crickets chirping. Again, see the Sarandon example as your proof.

Glad you liked my post Mahnarch. Although marriage at the time is out of the question, I still appreciate the nod. Haha! Anyway, as far as leaving my skin, I've heard of this thing that people can do called astral travel. Is it real? I dunno. Never experienced it myself. Supposedly it happens while you're sleeping, and you go to another world in a different dimension or something, where you can be whoever you want to be and do what you want.
If I could do it I'd be some kind of leader of a community. With a sword. Yeah, a sword would be nice.
Back on topic, Hank Jr. was just another victim of the ravaging pile of BS that is political correctness. I think Charlton Heston said it best when it comes to PC:
"Political correctness is just tyranny with manners."

Charlton Heston was a God amongst men.
He probably had many better quotes than Benjamin Franklin.
