The four year sentence and the fact that he may only serve months or maybe a year of it does not really surprise me in the least. This was, and always has been, a show trial from the beginning. And it's also typical of the California justice system. Four years for manslaughter? Please. People serve longer sentences for illegal drug possession.
But it's a broken down system where repeat celebrity offenders take complete advantage of it. Like Lindsay Lohan, the one who repeatedly violates her probation and mocks the system. She has served less than half a day in jail, and the judges just pile on more probation. To a normal person, probation incurs some problems, like with getting a job. To a celebrity, it's more of a kiss than a slap on the wrist. It's almost like a status symbol these days.
Conrad Murray also had asked for probation. As far as he's concerned, I don't particularly care about the verdict, the sentencing, or his punishment. I am more interested in how the Jackson family intends to continue trying to profit from the death of Michael. They have been leeches on his back since the minute he became successful, and that leech and mooch mentality has continued hard and fast since his death.
I consider his father a parasitic tick. And of having an equal sense of morality and intelligence.
They're going to keep the tragedy of Michael's death alive for as long as they can. For profit. I fear for his children more than anyone else; it's only a matter of time before they're exploited too.
I'm a big fan of capitalism and the ability to make money and do well for yourself, but not this kind. Never letting a tragedy go to waste (for the purpose of profiting or passing draconian, freedom stealing laws) is a very typical liberal ideology that I have nothing but contempt for. The Jacksons are no exception. It's time to let Michael rest now.
