He was cutting the screen on the back door. My grandpa fired a warning shot in the air the kid came at him with a knife and he fired. Thanks for confirming that. Your grandfather shot this punk because he was going to try and kill him with that knife, even after the warning shot. Good for your grandfather. Nitro said: "Thats nice and all but unrelated, we aint talking about coming through window, he was in the garden." I hope it's clear now why he was shot. He wasn't just trespassing, or chasing after a "loose ball". He was going to murder Beangirl's grandfather if he hadn't defended himself.

Thanks for the clarification Bean. I would hate to have our friends on the other side of the Atlantic have a bad perception of Americans that you can be shot for merely entering the premises.
No doubt there's a few people that crazy, but gun control wouldn't stop those people there's plenty of other ways to make pipe bombs or other explosives that would make them just as dangerous. Only the non-violent gun owners would be without weaponry.

I can see where you could get confused. There were two of them actually. The other boy jumped over the wall . In the alley way next to the back yard wall, they had put up blocks to get up and over into the yard.

I'm with farti1 - normal people knock on the door and you open it and say "Hi", although there are bad people who will knock and wait for you to open the door. That way there's no 'forced entry' evidence.
You see, anti-gun advocates will tell you to 'just call the police' but, if you peruse my signature I've had a link to 'Dial 911 and Die' for some time. It's an eye opener.

As far as hunting. I've spent every winter living off of venison since my inception.....or conception. I only eat beef between April and October, when the venison has run out.
So, hunting isn't just a sport to me. It's a way of survival.
On the plus side: When there's a 'beef scare' in the winter I just sit back and gaffaw, heartily, at the press - knowing full well that I'm unaffected.
And, Phil, squirrels are pretty tastey.... Rabbit is a little bland, though.

Possessing a gun isn't about murder or maiming. It's about responsibility and skill.
It won't be long before the simple ability of 'driving' will be taken away from car owners and the simple act of taking a steering wheel into your hands will fall into the realm of taking a firearm up.
Can you imagine someone in a crowd yelling "HE'S GOT A CAR!!!" and having everyone panic?
When did guns become taboo?
Men used to carry rifles down to the dry grocers. Men used to carry rifles down to the tavern. Men used to carry rifles into the mayor's office and no one batted an eye.
What day did everyone decide to leave their arms at home?
Also:
1 kid gets some guns and enters a school in Virginia and kills many. 1 kid gets some guns and enters a mall in Nebraska and kills many. 1 kid gets some guns and enters a college in Indiana and kills many.
68,697,998 law abiding gun owners didn't kill anyone yesterday.
