i have been under so much stress from work I finally got a break. my friend's came up from philly and we went to dorney park opening day. it was alot of fun. I got stuck on demon drop which is a free falling ride and me and my friend was screaming. omg work has taken a toll on me being so depressing. we were told nobody is getting a raise because sears is doing bad. a few days ago on morning shift I was paged to service desk to find a skirt for a lady. I took her on the floor and they didn't have it. then she tells me she called last night and it was on hold. I paged through the walkie does anyone know anything about a skirt on hold. the manager said it's in the gopher room in layaway for online shopping orders. I try and get in layaway and there is a padlock on the door. I said is it where the door is locked? the manager said yes the keys are at service desk. I get the keys and they don't work. I call pat over and she can't get it to work. she tells me to jump over the counter inside layaway to see if that key works for the door. it doesn't. the lady has waited 15 minutes and then she starts screaming at me she came all the way from jersey. well sorry I never saw the online shopping orders room and dont know where it's at. I had a employee come over and I left. tonight was a nightmare. they have been cutting hours so I came in 5-10 tonight. the fitting room has not been cleaned for hours. nobody got returns all day. and I get stuck with anna so there is no help to do returns. I got ladies halfway done and I just didn't care. I wanted to get out of this place. you know there's smart and there's kmart smart. well I have yet to see kmart smart lol

That seems like there's too many different people involved. Some things need to be handled by only one or at most two people so that there isn't a laps in communication or doors being locked when they're not supposed to be.

yes your right there was to many people for that one task to do. me and pat have never been in the gopher room for online shopping and didn't know where it was. all they had to do was ask the one person that knows where it is. they finally did that but after I got screamed at. I don't think kmart know's what they are doing. it seems like they lack in floor employees. today I had to wait 6 hours to go to dinner. my co-worker that was there to cover came back from dinner at 2. then 2-4 she was scheduled in layaway. it was just me and her and I was doing jewelery. so there is no way she can do layaway and jewelery plus the floor. like getting price checks and running to the call boxes. sharon came in for jewelery at 4 only they had her on service desk so my co-worker covered the floor by herself for a hour.
but it seems like your new management has it organized for you and the people who work that task. that's what kmart needs to do. also kmart needs to get a air conditioner running in their stores. all their stores are burning hot with no air. people ask why we don't have any and I hear excuses like it's broke. I hate working there in the summer so much.

Kmart isn't air-conditioned? That's amazing. How can they get away with that?

classicblast there is lots of stuff I don't know how kmart get's away with. in the winter there was no heat and it was so cold my nose was running and my co-worker went home sick. when she complained she was told there is nothing they can do. in the summer everyone including people shopping complain they can't take the heat. I can feel air on the left side of the store into kids and mens. but on the right going into ladies and the end it's so hot it feels like a oven. they always say it's broke and it will be fixed. well it has not been fixed since I work there. then they say it works but when the doors open the hot air comes in.
phil it's good that you work hard and your very dependable and come into work. I would love a double shift now because they cut my hours so much I am off 5 days straight on 18 hours this week. I am selling on ebay so I make sure my bills are paid. I am hoping my hours pick up but I am so mad at kmart.

Its tough to have five straight days off. Does retail lag a little bit between now and just before schools open again? I think I heard that the summer is slower for retail until the back to school push starts.

yes in the summer sometimes it does lag. it seems like they hire the new people to take our hours the people who have worked the longest. last summer I didn't lose my hours so that was a great thing. I am hoping it picks back up soon.

Summer is busier for me. Not a lot since there's work year around that needs attention but sometimes we build things in areas, replace benches outside train stops rebuild or replace shelters, and such. We also have to maintain land where tracks have been removed.
See, the railroad companies still own the land and are responsible for it even if the tracks have become inactive or even have been removed. In very few instances have they sold those feet of land mostly in case they someday decide to put in new track and use it again. At least they maintain that option this way. Some people use it as snowmobile trail or atv trail. When it comes behind residential land the home owners kind of commendere it which is fine. usually there's no issue.

Lucky. I could use a short work day once in a while. I am off on Memorial Day. That's one I don't always get. But like I said the last 5 years or so I've gotten so I get most holidays off. It took over 15 to earn enough seniority for that to happen though.
At the end of may I will have completed 21 years with the parent company CSX and in October I'll have completed 21 years with the Penn-York Division.
If anyone cares I'll explain that.

During the first couple weeks of May we had a lot of college-age kids in the library preparing for their final exams, and in the next couple weeks we will have the high school kids coming in studying for their final exams. One of the ladies at work said that come June, it starts to slow down a little because of summer vacation, but it will get busier in late August. The last couple weeks have been busy, so I did not have time to come on here. I'm off tomorrow, Saturday, and we are closed on Sundays. Hopefully I can catch up on a few things.

There's a lot of signed up for our baseball camp too. I think I'm going to love this. I've never presided over a camp before but I am definitely going to like doing this. This particular group of signups are impressed that I'm an ex player. Being a double A player rarely holds water.
