A northern Colorado woman who was playing a game on Facebook while her 13-month-old baby drowned in a bathtub was sentenced Friday to 10 years in prison.
above is the short version of the story but it's on yahoo news. a mother drowned her 13 month old child while playing a cityville game on facebook sharing videos and checking status updates. all this while her baby was face down in water and drowned. her excuse was she didn't mean for it to happen but she wanted to teach her child to be independent and not a mama's boy. this makes me mad because these poor kids have to die over something so meaningless like facebook games. I mean I knew at the age of 12 never leave a baby alone. when you become a mother you know better then to do these horrible things. your job is to protect your child with your life facebook can wait. there is no excuse for what she did and she can't just go around blaming facebook for her stupidity.

The death isn't due to facebook it's due to incompetent parenting. This was a video I made in October but my opinion has not changed since then.
Ok, my kids might sneak in an extra cookie once in a while they might bite their nails a few seconds after I told them to stop. That might happen but I know what they're up to at all times. I open doors and walk in while they're asleep too. I don't just assume they're sleeping.
I am so sick of parents who don't do their job.

There are too many stupid people. I don't know what to say other than we are heading into the second generation of not knowing how to raise kids. Someone who wasn't raised responsibly probably wouldn't just figure out how to do it. Obviously some parenting should come instinctively. Like pick up a child who is crying. Feed at regular increments things like those.

I agree, I cannot count how many "lost kids" I have taken care of at Wal Mart while we are trying to locate there parents. One guy left his 6 year old daughter sitting a case of cold beer in the back of our store while he went up front to grab a cart. Last night I was on the door and a woman left her newborn son in her cart by me while she and her little girl visited "Red Box" video in our foyer.

This strikes me as odd/funny.
Next to Phil's video, right now, is a rolling ad from Overstock.com featuring their line of folding knives.
Subliminal message?
***
Beangirl, you should've hid the newborn with another employee so that when the mother comes back she'll have a bit of a freak out (if she even cared).
But, then we'd see in the liberal media that "Local Greeter Arrested On Kidnapping Charge".
Even though you try to teach someone a life lesson some skanky lawyer would try to figure a way to turn it around on you...

phil I remember your video and agree with everything you said. when your a parent you know that comes first. if you want to play facebook games you can play when your child is sleeping. but what kind of idiot thinks it's okay to leave a baby to fend for themselves in a tub full of water? their stupid people and they should not have a judge feel sorry for them while they cry it was a mistake. it wasn't because they are to dumb to watch their child it's the child that has their life cut short over a stupid facebook game. oh and because the lady had to check her status updates wow that is really important.
and beangirl I think it's crazy that in retail they think it's the employee's job to babysit their kids. I had a woman ask where her daughter was because she was in the fitting room. she was probaly 8 and the lady got mad at me because I didn't know and gave me a dirty look. parents let their kids run wild through the store while they go shopping. but it does shock me that a parent left their newborn with you. they think we run a day care service.

Mahnarch yes the lawyers! They would find a way to say its facebook or the inventors of Farmville for making a game that is so addictive it makes parents lax about their parenting job. I like something Phil said too. "Once in a while they might sneak in an extra cookie" (not an exact quote) but that makes the point. Kids can't be seen on every single action. But you know what they're up to at all times was the main message. I have two boys and the more forbidden the item the more intriguing it is. But thats where the parent comes in.

I get so mad at stories like that. They end up finding some loop hole to make this woman seem justified by saying it was an accident and there was no intent.

i know and that really needs to stop. they can't go on saying face book games are that addictive. everyone has a choice. parents are supposed to lay down their life for their child not kill them over some game you can play anytime like when they are sleeping. if all those people are concerned about in life is playing farm ville all day they have problems.

I am really tired of negligent parents over all. I realize there's always been a few. There's a few others not too far away that think that its ok for their 13 yearolds to sit home and drink beer.
There's a couple stories I think I'll make some videos about. 1. About 2 weeks ago a 14 year old girl. Jason's age, Jason knew her a little bit but they were in different sections of school.
Well about 2 weeks ago this girl was killed in a car crash the driver of the car she was riding in was drunk and this happened at 430am on a Friday going into a Saturday.
What the hell kind of parents let their 14 year old out at that hour???/ How do you have such lack of interest in your kid that she is affiliated with someone who would be a drunk driver??? Or do they condone it? How will they live with themselves now or do they figure its just 1 of those things?
How does a 14 year old not have a curfew? And if she did have a curfew, how was she able to violate it?
The drunk driver was not 21 he was I think 19 but here comes another question, would you want your 14 year old in the company of a 19 year old? Especially at that hour. Even if it was a group of kids all ages they're not old enough for lack of supervision. OH YEAH. That hour again!
Next story. A man about 33 and his cousin about 29 and a 4 year old girl are shot and wounded. Nobody died thank God. But what happened is the man and his cousin were going into a dangerous neighborhood to buy cocaine. That's right.
So if you have bad habits that's your business I'm not even judging on this but you don't implement your 4 year old. That got my attention since my daughter is 4. What happened is one guy was driving the car while the other went into the drug house to make the buy. There was an argument and they were shot at. The guy who went in to make the buy was running to the car and someone came out of the house and shot at him. They hit the 33 year old father in the ribs and arm, hit the little girl in the arm and the driver in the hand.
How is it possible to subject a child to that kind of danger? How can you have that low regard for your child's safety? Is an addiction that strong or what? How does that happen?

it's sickening that these poor kids who can't defend themselves end up with trash as parents. I have never been hooked on drugs and don't think I ever will. I don't know what's wrong with these people. that poor child had to suffer at the hands of stupid people for taking the child to buy drugs. that's just sick. as for the 14 year old that is really sad and I don't know how the parents thought letting a 14 year old out with a 19 year old at 430am was a good idea. did they ever hear of statutory rape? what is someone that old hanging out with a minor. the parents must be sick in the head because I can't even figure out what is wrong with them to be so stupid. if your going to have kids you need to set rules. this protects them. you need to teach them to look out for themselves and be responsible. but you never allow them in a car with someone that late that's just crazy.

another story I forgot to add was on aol last night. someone was killed simply for defriending someone on facebook. and after that story the stupid people were commenting on aol saying this is why facebook should be taken down. I don't agree. facebook is a great way to stay in contact with people. I even found 2 friends I knew from years ago on facebook. people will do sick things but those who do should be blamed not look for excuses on who's fault it is. it's still sad that this all happened. and a 14 year old who had their whole life ahead of them is now gone. and your right parents will have to live with that.

Facebook should be taken down? Should cars be outlawed because some people are bad drivers? Should schools be closed because a teacher ended up being a bank robber? Obviously not. People need to use things responsibly and sadly there are some insanities. Unfriending someone would be no more harsh than hanging up on them do they then outlaw phones because someone got hung up on?
Like Phil said in the video the farmville game wasn't the danger, it was the woman's lack of proper prioritization of her child to a game. The game didn't cause the child's death.
I am with both of you not knowing where your kids are at all hours is ridiculous.
