So as a gift from my dad to himself, we got a 52 inch 1080p HD TV.
THE THING IS FREAKING HUGE.
That is all for now, pictures tomorrow.

Even the commercials on SuperBowl Sunday are the best and the monstrous TV would make it even better.

Lucky bastage. I really want an HDTV, but I'll be going back down on campus in a month so that won't work. I guess I could get an HD receiver for my laptop though.
You need to get DirecTV and enjoy the HD goodness. Then get the Big Ten Network and let me crash there.

You can do that? I thought 'HD' meant 'more pixels per square.....foot', or something, that involved a different physical screen set up.
I didn't know. I'm a techno-left-behind - stuck in the late 90s.

However, standard television has a pretty low resolution, somewhere around 720x480 pixels. Laptops nowadays have extremely high-res screens, so they can easily handle 1280x720 ("720p"), which is a form of HD.

Its soooo nice! We got the HD cablebox set up today now with a optical cable to our bose surround sound. I watched King Kong, and it was BETTER then our local theater, and definitely cheaper (to go to, at least)

I'm sure it was. And another good surround sound movie to watch is Pirates of the Caribbean, anything with lots of stomping or explosions will vibrate tables it's super.
And you have a huge 52 inch screen.

I 'had' a nice surround sound system for my computer - 8 speakers, strategicaly located, until the power surge back in August.
The homeowners insurance didn't think it was worth as much as I put into it (semi-custom with 'Creative' and 'Bose Studio Monitors' w/amp and remote [5.1 Surround? Pffftt! I had a speaker in the seat of my chair!!*])
*kidding but, close. I had all 5 normal points, plus two down low and one directly over my chair, directed at the computer.
Now I'm reduced to digging out the two minis that came with the computer until I can afford to replace it all at about $700 (they gave me "$25 to replace" due to lost value over time and will 'reimburse' me when I've 'replaced what I had' (pfft!).......how about GIVING ME A $%#^& CHECK TO REPLACE??!!!!)
Gah! Insurance companys. Can't live with 'em. Can't drop kick 'em in the face.
You notice how 'insurance' is a nice little extortion raquet, though?....... You get a ticket....for not having it. BUT, you could have $400 millions dollars in cash in the bank (available upon request).....and you'd still get a ticket.
WHY??
The only reason for insurance is to cover the cost of an accident.
Moneybags You: Oh, it cost the other guy 50k to get medical help...here you go. Cop: You didn't have insurance....here you go. Insurance man: *laughing too maniacally to the bank to understand* If you never get into an accident.....shouldn't you get all that money back?
