I remember growing up and being in the back seat of my parents cars and sort of expressing that I don't care for their choice of music. I didn't hate it but it wasn't my music.
I like the Eagles, the Beetles, Kiss, AC/DC other rock like that. That was all through my growing up years before and after my brother and sister were born that was the case.
In recent years I find myself on the other side of the debate. Jason and his brother like the hiphop and more modern stuff. They dont hate what I like but there's yet another generation gap.
I am also finding AC/DC songs or other familiar rock songs being re strung as rap or hiphop songs. There always were some remakes but its become a much more common thing than it used to be. Only the remake is not just a singing of the same song but a change of its type altogether but using familiar lyrics.

Although I am not a parent, I do find myself not liking some of the music that kids in high school and middle school like. A lot of people of those ages like Miley Cyrus, any kind of rap music, Demi Lovato, and the Jonas Brothers, and I can't stand it. I'd rather listen to shoes in a dryer.
Some of my favorite bands are Queens of the Stone Age, Kings Of Leon, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Attack Attack, and In This Moment. Some solo artists I like are Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Amy Winehouse, Duffy, and Lenka.
While I was growing up my parents played a lot of 80s music, but I actually like it. They also played some disco, but I don't like that.

I agree, I do find myself liking some of what they kids listen to.
I could never get my parents to embrace Quiet Riots 'Metal Health' *bank your head* song It was a favorite among my friends when I was about 12.
I still list the Eagles as my favorite band. Journey is another favorite. In a country format it has to be Hank Williams Jr. Bosephus forever!

My dad used to play the oldies all the time on the radio and I hated it back then. It was boring and I wanted to hear my modern stuff. There was a station that played 80's and 90's songs at the time I listened to. I listen to alot of rock. Other things too though. Not big on country and much of rap. I can't say I like the current pop artists either I'm hearing about. I honestly don't think they're talented enough to be constantly talked about.

There were some weird things in the 80s. I guess it continues to get weirder, but musicians really went bizarre in the 80s. Since then they've gotten gradually more strange but that was such an era of a giant step that it really threw teachers and other adults in my parents generation.

I honestly don't think they're talented enough to be constantly talked about. I agree with you on that, Demona. These days it seems to me that you don't even need talent to be famous. You just need to look fake, be dumber than a bag of rocks, and a constant drunk, and you get your own show on MTV.
