i worked in retail for almost 11 years now and some people I think are just way to into their cell phones. although I know they are important but sometimes people don't realize they are being rude. when I was at work on checkouts I had a lady come into my line that talked to her phone instead of paying attention to the angry people in line behind her. she had blinds in her basket I had to use the hand scanner to scan everyone. I had to almost break my back leaning over for the upc. I then had to grab some of her small items out of her basket because her conversation must of been more important. here comes the best part. I had to repeat her total 3 times so she would pay. when she left the person behind her said what a {not a nice word}. another when I was on the floor. this lady was looking for this shirt that was on sale in the ad. well her phone rang so she asked me to hang on. of coarse lady I am just at work with nothing better to do waiting for the joy when you get off that phone so I can do my job. I stood there for 5 minutes while she talked. another time a lady asked if we had a car seat. I checked and went to tell her the answer. however she was deep in conversation ignoreing me then at the time I got called to jewelery. I called someone else over to help her. she saw me and told me I was rude for not checking. I am sorry I have a life and can't stand there all day as you talk on your phone and the custermer waits in jewelery.
so those are my horror stories of people on their phones as I am sure we all had to deal with this. anyone have cell phone stories they would like to share? my friend used to work at a bank and she said this guy called her when he was on the toilet and she could hear him. I think that was one of the funniest stories I have herd.

Its everywhere. People at the Movies talk into their phone. They're in a restaurant and they're each on their own phone talking to someone when they're with each other in a group of whoever is there. I would be lost without my phone but come on, there's times not to be using it. There's things that should not make your attention divided other people don't deserve to be held up so you can find out some gossip about somebody while you're in a checkout line.

Oh yeah . I work at Wal Mart in the meat department. I have worked on registers, the doors and on the floor and I hear people having some of the most irritating, personal and down right volatile conversations on there cells. I hear things I wish I had not. I guess people don't care who hears there dirty laundry. Lots of times I will have a cart full of merchandise or cardboard I am taking to the ware house and someone on a cell will run right into me.

Texting is my peeve more than talking. I agree dirty laundry doesn't need to be heard, and the rest of us really don't care. But texting kids walking down the street texting barely even looking as they cross the street.
I have a rule at my house that I don't want to be texted if something went wrong kids in this house have to play George Washington and come clean. A friend of Jasons 'texted' his father to tell him a baseball went through a window. OH no you don't! You face him and listen to the angry reaction that's what's going to make you stronger someday.

i hate so much when people talk on their cell phones during a movie. it cost about 8 bucks to see a movie then you have to deal with people who can't be quiet.
beangirl I know how you feel. some people feel the need to yell scream and curse someone out on their cell phone for the entire store to hear. I think if someone is that angry they should talk in private on their phone.
i agree phil. it's better to face the music and tell the person that you are very sorry and you are willing to do whatever it takes to fix the window or pay for it. I herd a story I think on aol that a person was texting and didn't see a open manhole and fell down it. people really need to learn to be careful. I can't text and walk because I would walk right into something or someone.

Hahaha. I know its really not funny its actually a terrible story about the person text messaging and falling into an open manhole. That's something you would see in a slapstick movie though.
Obviously this person must have been seriously injured because something like that is very dangerous.

How about people texting you and they don't even realize they have the wrong # and they get mad when you tell them that.
Meanwhile you want to get rid of them but if you tell them off too abruptly they have your # and can continue to pester you.

yeah I never herd of anyone falling into a manhole because they were texting. I think I read it on aol but you might be able to google the story. I can't text and walk because I will walk into something.
phil I never had that happen to me thank goodness. I hope I never have to deal with that.

I run a construction business. On some jobs we have to outlaw phones. Leave them in the trucks or at home or whatever.
That's not every job that we work on because some are less dangerous. But we can't chance someone text messaging, calling friends, checking their facebook with their blackberry and ending up run over by a bulldozer. Or falling out of a wall that isn't finished being built.
We have enough laborers that are not the brightest or most on task and are distracted easy. Not to mention I am paying them not to have their head up their butt. I see that's too much to ask enough of the time. I don't need them getting killed or seriously injured or being the cause of another worker to have that happen.
In the jobs that outlaw phones we make an exception for the veteran leaders of the crew that if any message that matters needs to be sent we contact that person. That person will make the others aware if the need to be informed. Girlfriend gossip and drinking plans are not what they need to check on while their on my time and my dime.

I like text for gossip. I do think people use it too much and should know when not to. I am a teacher I make all the kids turn their phones off. I know most schools have that policy but I try to enforce it. I give writing assignments if I catch someone with a phone not turned off. If it signols a text, rings or even if I can see the light flicker that is it turned on.

Cell phones have only gotten more advanced over the years, with the certain persistant side effect that they are getting more and more annoying as well. Cell phones are a part of the reason why I don't bother with movie theaters anymore. On Demand FTW! I also heard a statistic the other day that distracted drivers (i.e. drivers on the phone, talking or worse, texting) resulted in 6000 people killed. Found the link:http://www.distraction.gov/stats-and-facts/ I also think people talk on the cell phones because it gives them an opportunity to inconvenience someone else, or to make themselves look important.

I'll text alot, it's easier than calling and having to leave a message if they're gone, and feeling like an idiot talking to yourself.
Anyway, my pet peeve is people who are out with you and rather than focus on their friends in person, have to yak on the phone. It's like saying you aren't important, and pisses me off so much. I don't see why it can't wait.

thunderbird I think that is a great rule. the last thing anyone want's to do is explain to a family member of the workers that there was a accident because texting. it's always better safe then sorry.
kimm I think it's great you do that. kids really need to concentrate on their teachers and education. it would be really hard to do that if they are talking on their phones in class. when I am at work my phone stays in my locker. I text on break but not on the job. however some other people don't care to do that. I caught someone texting when I came out of the fitting room as I checked the stalls. this girl is so lazy she won't even help do returns. I get so mad. it's very important to do good in school because that leads you to a good job and you can't do that if your texting. I wish people at work would stop doing that.
jersey yeah there are a lot of accidents where people end up getting killed. it's sad that people need to text while they are driving. it's as bad as driving drunk.
and demona I know what you mean. if I were to go on a date with a guy and all he did was talk on his phone in a resteraunt I would run for the exit. luckily that hasn't happened yet. my friends don't really talk on their cell when they are out with me. only if their husbands call or girlfriends.

A kid who joined our crew is starting to get better he would text all night.
Mind you we are overnight shift. Brian is our foreman Brian says 'Wayne, none of your friends if they have any values are still up at this hour anyway.' 'if they have values they're asleep or at work and don't need to receive texts at this hour anyway.'
Last night/this morning however you look at it I guess. We were putting up a waiting shelter and Wayne's phone buzzed, Brian said 'Shut that thing off or I'm going to shove it down your throat. If this isn't done by 6am my head is coming off and I'm not about to let that happen on account of that f'king phone of yours.'

As phone become more high tech it's going to get worse. Internet can be accessed by most new style phones now. Droid and Blackberry and Voyager are all internet capable. With that Television Shows, Radio broadcasts and You Tube, My Space, Facebook and all comes thought the Phone. And a lot of people will use them while driving. Its just how people are.

wow phil I wish our managers would say stuff like that to people. especially the lazy people. a certain person has become so lazy when she comes in for a 5 hour shift she takes a 30 minute break instead of fifteen because she can't eat her soup in 15 minutes. then she won't help me do any returns and we have to babysit her to make sure she straightens. if we had managers like brian maybe they would crack down on texting and slackers.
and blastgirl that is scary to think about with all the stuff on cell phones like youtube and internet there will most likely be more accidents. people need to understand while they are driving if you need your phone for something drive till you can pull over safely so you won't hit anyone.
jason that's good that you text your dad. that way if your bus ever comes late or if a road is closed you can text your dad and tell him you will be late. one time I was at work and there was a tree in our driveway. nobody could pick me up. so I had to call my friend to get me. sometimes emergencies come up and cell phones are important to have.

I've actually read some posts and heard some accounts of people, especially teachers and managers, using these little devices to combat the cell problem. electronics.howstuffworks.com/cell-phone-jammer.htmThey are cell phone jammers, and they work by jamming the signal of the phone. Basically, you (the victim) gets zero service. Some teachers might hide them in their desk to curb cell phone use during class, and business managers may do it in office buildings for the same reasons. Some people use them for pranks. I've heard some funny reactions can be gotten out of impatient people when they suddenly "lose" their service. The only trouble? They're illegal. So it wouldn't be good to get caught with one.
