this is my first topic I am posting so I thought I would talk about the holidays. it's hard to belive summer is coming to a end and the dreaded black friday is coming. the reason I say dreaded is because I work in retail and it is always the worst day ever. I work in softlines with the clothes and do returns. every black friday people manage to destroy softlines leaveing clothes all over the floor. I get so stressed out because I get yelled at over crazy stuff. christmas I have a plan to start shopping in october useing cash. I do love christmas shopping. so much nice stuff I find to buy people. I also love the store salvation army because I find gucci purses and nice clothes for cheap. the stores have beautiful decorations for christmas. does everyone on here look forward to christmas? it's the one holiday I can get off for from work.

I don't bother to leave the house on Black Friday. The reasons listed above help explain the reasons why.

That's the worst day for stores. I try to stay away from such places too.

It's too early for me to think about, but I know people who'll camp out that morning when it's still dark in front of stores. I say that's overboard, even if you save some money. If you go ahead of time, there's no problem. I also know Marshall's contains marked down name brand stuff, I get my perfume there. I've seen Juicy Couture bags, but they were still expensive even marked down.

I have already started my Christmas Shopping. I don't finish it until it's almost Christmas but I like to have most of it done by Halloween. I figured out a lot of years ago that if you buy one gift a week you can buy more and not run out of money. I still go to stores on Black Friday but I'm not in a major panic because I am not desperate to shop on that day.

wow blastgirl that is good you started early. it's also a good plan to have. I went shopping probaly on 2 black friday's in my life. usually I work that day pretty late. I did get some good deals at jcpenny. I don't really spend that much on that day.
Demona I bought some juicy pants at salvation army for 7 bucks. they are really comfortable. I love nice purses when I find them at a good price. I could never camp out at a store. people who line up at 10pm for the 6am deals have a lot of patience. I would rather sleep and buy online.
classicblast last year instead of going to the stores I shopped online. best buy had some good deals and my sister asked for a computer moniter so I bought her one for a pretty good price. I love christmas and spending time with people. love the cookies to.
jersey stores do get crazy for black friday. especially when I hear people who get trampled at walmart. I never went there on a black friday. I would say kmart is not that bad if you go after the morning. if you want to beat the lines go kmart at night on thanksgiving day. that's the one day of the year I am board there. I havent shopped on a black friday in some time.

I stay clear of those things on Black Friday.
I figure that its my wife's job to buy socks and shirts I'll buy the toys and the fun things. The 'good presents.' Shopping online is a good way but if its going to be a surprise for other members of the house its harder to conceal because you never know when its going to be delivered.

I work at Wall Mart so I know all about black Friday. Wal Mart calls it "The big event" We stay open 24 hours so we won't have the door busters. The sale starts at 5 am You must line up for the specials. You can only leave the line if you have a voucher.Because of the trampling in NYC we don't call it back Friday

People actually run each other down and fight for toys as if they're in the NFL fighting for a fumbled football. hahaha.

phil I like to buy the fun presents to. I still go to the stores and play with the toys lol. does your wife like to shop on black friday. I see on youtube there's a lot of crazy stories on black friday. I usually have to work that day. last black friday they called me in early because the checkout lines were into ladieswear and ending around sporting goods which was at the end of the store. I really hope this year I am off or like my shirt says I used up all my sick days so I am calling in dead lol. I don't think that excuse will work though.
beangirl it must be crazy at walmart that day. I hear a lot about trampelings at walmart. on youtube they have videos of people getting hurt fighting over tvs. what happened in new york was really sad. someone died and there were custermers mad because they couldn't shop. I work at kmart and we never had tramelings when I was there. we do get a lot of crazy people. I get screamed at when we run out of something on black friday.
and classicblast I agree with that. I was shocked to hear on black friday there was a shooting at toysrus. I don't really know what happened. certain people on black friday get so excited for good deals they don't care who they run down.

The people getting trampled is a telling sign of one of two things.
1. These shoppers are so hard up and desperate for money that in their frenzy they don't realize they've trampled someone.
2. They care more about saving a few dollars on that flatscreen tv or that GPS than they care about human life.
I usually go for the latter. Black Friday should be done away with.

I remember when cabbage patch dolls hit the market it was violent. People literally mugged each other for the dolls. Even after Christmas they were hard to get for a long time.

We were selling memory cards 2 gig for 10 bucks . That was two years ago. The line starting at 7 Thanksgiving night was already around the corner. This 24 hour deal last year I closed so it was well over by the time I got to work at 3.pm.

i agree jersey. people care so much about things they most likely don't even need. the only time I will ever buy a tv is if mine breaks and can't be fixed. you can still get good deals on days that is not on black friday. they have great deals the weekend after thanksgiving and malls have nice stuff on clearance.
and phill I remember when cabbage patch kids were in the stores. I loved the dolls and I still have some. I loved the stuff in the 80s. she-ra, my little pony, hot looks dolls, my child dolls, pound puppies. I really wish she-ra toys would hit the stores again.
and beangirl that is a great deal. I can't remember what great deals kmart had. just on tvs and clothes. I wonder what this year will be like.

I remember a politician's cabbage patch doll was stolen and a ransom note was sent that if the ransom was not met the cabbage patch doll was going to be coleslaw. I don't know what the upshot was but I remember the story.

Obviously they did that for a joke and I'd like to see the humor in it but I have to also think it gives undue credibility to the thieves.
