Im amazed there wasnt more tragic happening.
It seems that hostage situations never seem to end without a mass killing.
Most of the time by the point that they take hostages the perpetrators aren't valuing their own life by then theyre willing to get killed so how can they be concerned about anybody elses live if theyre not worried about their own?

So was I. When I first saw it on TV, I was sure something horrible would happen, but then the perpetrator ended up just shooting himself, and not injuring others, which was a miracle.

That's what is really tough is that the hostage takers don't care if they get killed. In fact they figure that is probably going to happen. Since they don't find it likely they will get out of this alive they've already assumed the hostages will be dead too.
I have thought about this. Imagine going to work or the store or the bank you're working there or you're a customer and suddenly the facility is held up by robbers or someone who holds up the place and the people in it to avoid being captured. They will kill thinking their demands are going to be met or that maybe they will if the show they mean business.
Imagine being the mayor, governor or whoever the decisions are made by in the circumstances. You can't give in to them because that will display that taking hostages or holding a building up might get your demands met, but saying no will most probably be a death sentence to some or all of the hostages. What a terrible predicament.
I do remember planes being hijacked when I was a kid. Most of the time in those days if the pilot took the hijackers where they wanted to go they didn't hurt the passengers. Now it seems the plane and its passengers are doomed regardless of the cooperation of the crew or not.

I'm late on this but:
Al Gore didn't train this guy well enough, apparently.
Liberalism is a mental disorder and this is further proof.

They can do a documentary on this now. *wink* I wouldn't joke about this if it was a greater tragedy then it ended up being.
