I think it was suggesting there are 3 online right then the last 24 hours table actually tells you who has visited. I can't always get here on the weekend I don't always do that much internet since I am a night shift worker most of our weekend is family time.
The 3 online now would be computers lurking that are not logged in and 59 for the day but I don't know how accurate that is.

I come on almost everyday. Sometimes I just browse and other times I comment. I am not bored just tired in my old age. ;D

I dont log in every single day but I do get on as much as is possible. I get afraid the internet will absorb me if I serf it too much.

I usually come here every day for a while, then I get absorbed into something else for a while (HULU shows, mostly) and then I get called back from the wild by Phil and/or Demona and/or Jersey.
Then, I come back for a while.
Now, I'm concentrating on Amazon work but, a brother needs a break once in a while.

I am here everyday unless I am very tired or very busy. Obviously its not possible to be here every single day but I do try.
Until this year the summer I would be away for a few days sometimes even a few weeks but that isn't going to be an issue anymore.

I feel my point has been missed but I didn't emphasise it. How did we have 55 lurking? Isn't that quite a lot?

I think we're hearing you. Just the members have explained their own habits of participation. If your computer lurked 3 or 4 times not logged in the forum might have thought there were 4 onlookers once logged in that would show as the same lurker 4 times not 4 lurkers. I get what you're saying. The same 3 or 4 people in an hours time could have added to 55 guests but it was really 3 or 4 people 10 or 15 times.

It shows the record to be one hundred twenty. I really would doubt that many people were observing the board at the same time even if they were just unlogged in readers. I think its like e Bay when they have five hundred views, it could actually be the same person doing the viewing over again.
I think ProBoards is like that too the amount of clicks not necessarily different people doing it.

real answer:
in the past 24 hours, there were 5 users online, 2 administrators, and 57 guests. it is likely that there were a few guests that visited the forum but did not log in, but I highly doubt that that number went as high as 57. however, there are bots for search engines like google that tend to visit websites in order to gather information for the search engine, and that is what most of the guests are.

I never thought of that that explains it better. Sometimes bot visitors actually start a profile and post spam. We've had that happen at least twice in the almost 7 years I've been here. About two other times it wasnt' a bot post it was some ignorant ass.hole who thought they'd annoy us. The delete key and the ban key solve those problems though. Bot posts can spam the boards in a matter of a few minutes though.

Bots cause a lot of trouble. We had 1 before I was kind of annoyed it posted some pictures I didn't really want my son to find.
Not that he hasn't seen that before I'm aware of what 11, 12, 13 year olds find and have through the internet and school. When I was his age it was magazines but there's always a way. I just didn't need that to happen here.
